Australia's 'elites' and everyday voters are becoming increasingly divided in their attitudes and values. This is reflected in new CT Group research, as featured in Friday's edition of The Australian. Whereas elites are broadly satisfied with the status quo, there is growing frustration and calls for change among other Australians. While elites see Australia heading in the right direction overall, other mainstream voters see the country heading in the wrong direction. Elites see their financial situations marginally improving over the next 12 months whereas the others see their situations getting worse. The divide is also seen in areas such as attitudes toward immigration and climate change, and trust in government, institutions and academia. This points to a clear lesson for Australia's political and business leaders. As CT Group's Executive Chairman Sir Lynton Crosby AO notes, "politicians and business leaders need to properly understand the audience to which they’re communicating … and not to see things through the prism of the person communicating. And if you can connect with people at a values level, then you can be persuasive." CT Group has conducted research into the UK public’s perceptions of the new Labour government one hundred days since the General Election.   The research revealed that addressing cost of living pressures remains the dominant issue voters want addressed and are looking for greater government action to deal with the issue. Reducing high bills and food costs are specific priority issues people want the new government to focus on, with some public sympathy for more interventionist policies, including nationalisation of some public services.   Voters are looking for the Labour government to deliver economic growth and have identified a lower rate of inflation, more wealth across the economy, lower interest rates, more training and skill opportunities and more job openings as evidence that this is occurring.    CT Group is a global consultancy that combines expertise in research, intelligence, campaigns, and advisory services.
