AMEA Power’s Chairman, Hussain Al Nowais, was recently interviewed by Alex Irwin-Hunt, Global Markets Editor at fDi Intelligence. The Chairman shared insights to our Aysha-1 wind energy project, a 300MW onshore wind farm in Ethiopia’s Somali region. This $620 million project is set to generate up to 1400 GWh of clean energy annually by 2027, supporting Ethiopia’s energy needs and contributing to the UAE’s $4.5 billion pledge to accelerate renewable energy projects across Africa. 🇦🇪 Since 2022, the UAE has been the top source of greenfield investment pledges in Africa. AMEA Power's project in Ethiopia 🇪🇹 exemplifies this ↓ 👉 https://on.ft.com/47dDtXX 📰 Last week, Dubai-based private owned developer AMEA Power signed an agreement with Ethiopia’s state-owned electricity company EEP for the development and operation of a 300-megawatt onshore wind project. 💰 The Aysha-1 project, located in the eastern Somali region of the country, is expected to cost $620m to construct and generate up to 1400 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually once operational. 🌿 The Ethiopian wind project, which was officially launched during last year’s UN climate summit hosted in Dubai, is part of the UAE’s pledge to invest $4.5bn to help accelerate clean energy projects across Africa. 📈 Since 2022, UAE-based companies have made greenfield investment pledges in Africa worth almost $100bn, making the Gulf country the largest source of FDI on the continent, according to fDi Intelligence data. This is ahead of large economies like the US and China, and former colonial powers like France and the UK. 👏 Thanks to AMEA Power's Hussain Al Nowais, JIC Holding's Mark-Anthony Johnson, Kasirim NWUKE and Bereket Alemayehu for speaking to me about this project and renewable energy development across the continent. #renewable #energy #fdi #ethiopia #uae #cop28

Africa is often referred to as the ‘Sun Continent’, home to 60% of the world’s best solar resources, yet only 1% of installed solar PV capacity, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Solar energy has the potential to contribute 15% of Africa’s electricity by 2030, and 30% by 2040 (AOW: Investing in African Energy, 2024). Africa’s solar energy future looks brighter than ever. Certain key factors are enabling the renewable energy transition in Africa. As the cost of solar technology continues to decrease, it attracts significant investment in large-scale solar projects. Furthermore, numerous African governments are supporting the growth of renewable energy, with favorable policies, whilst international collaborations are driving even more innovation. At AMEA Power, we are at the forefront of this energy transition, with solar PV projects across Africa that are paving the way for a sustainable energy future. We remain committed to providing reliable, affordable, and clean energy for all. #AMEAPower #RenewableEnergy #Suatainability #Africa #SolarEnergy

We recently launched the construction of the 24MWp Ituka Solar PV Project located in Uganda. This project will not only be the first solar PV project in the West Nile region but also its first internationally financed renewable IPP ☀️ Once operational, the project will produce 53,940MWh of clean energy per year, power 192,640 households and offset 26,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. As Uganda aims to increase its non-hydro renewable electricity generating capacity, particularly from solar, this project will support the country in achieving this goal whilst delivering economic and environmental benefits for generations to come 🍃 #AMEAPower #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #Uganda #Africa #SolarPower

Last week a delegation from the IFC - International Finance Corporation, led by Saad Sabrah, IFC Egypt Country Head, and Jurgen von Borries, IFC Principal Environmental Specialist for Africa, visited our 500MW Abydos Solar PV and 500MW Amunet Wind sites in Egypt. This visit was an excellent opportunity for the team to see the construction progress of both projects, financed by IFC. Furthermore, we showcased our top-tier health, safety and environmental standards, as well as our commitment to local employment and community development. During the week, we also signed a partnership agreement with Nature Conservation Egypt (NCE). This agreement focused on the retrofitting of overhead power lines in the Gulf of Suez area, contributing to the protection of thousands of migratory birds annually. At AMEA Power, we are developing renewable energy projects that power a brighter tomorrow 🌍 #AMEAPower #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #WindEnergy #SolarEnergy #EnvironmentalProtection #NatureConservation
