September Air Cargo Market Update! September 2024 marked a turning point in the global air cargo market! While we didn’t see double-digit growth this month, demand still rose by +9% year-on-year. Here’s what you need to know: Balancing Act: Airlines and freight forwarders are now juggling customer relationships with short-term revenue opportunities amid market volatility. Upcoming Challenges: With strikes at US ports and escalating conflicts in the Middle East, expect rates to rise quickly on some trade lanes. Seasonal Adjustments: Airlines are preparing for winter by adjusting flight schedules, anticipating a 20% reduction in cargo capacity across the Atlantic. Spot Rate Surge: September’s average global spot rate increased by +26% to USD 2.71 per kg, marking the fourth consecutive month of double-digit growth. Corridor Insights: Spot rates from #Asia to #NorthAmerica and #Europe are leading the charge, with the #MiddleEast to Europe seeing a staggering +112% year-on-year increase! “September is already old news.
