Caius: the catalog of the American Kennel Club Library

Named for Johannes Caius, the author of the first book to describe and classify all the known breeds and their uses, this catalog represents the holdings of what is thought to be the world's largest and most diverse canine library. Our collection covers 17 languages representing 2,000 years of written material concerning the dog. We present this catalog as an aid to identify information sources on subjects associated with breeding for type and functionality as well as the role of the dog in sport, companionship, and cultural traditions.

Caius is a work in progress and does not yet represent all of the library's holdings. Particularly absent are records for our extensive collection of breed-specific journals, yearbooks, and archival holdings. Please feel free to contact the staff if you would like information about these materials or have any questions about what you see or don't see in the catalog.

The AKC Library was established as an on-site research and reference facility. It is open to the public. Unfortunately, we are unable to participate in interlibrary loan. Inclusion in this collection in no way implies endorsement by the American Kennel Club.
