Tigers baseball season ends tonight
Tiger seniors Billy Howard, Bryan Speer, Luis Muro, Cale Wardlaw, Dee Dee Robinson, Cody Weishaar |
Come out early to honor the senior student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom and on the playing field during their time at THS.
Honorees include seniors Billy Howard, Bryan Speer, Cale Wardlaw, Cody Weishaar, Dee Dee Robinson and Luis Muro.
This year, inexperience on the varsity level and redistricting handcuffed the Tigers in their drive for a 3rd straight playoff appearance. They enter Friday's game with an 8-23 record.
"Despite not having an ideal record, I really enjoyed my first year as a head coach. It was a learning process for everyone involved," reflected coach Gage Davis on his first season as the Tiger's head coach.
Coach Davis also said "there are a lot more positive things that came out of the season that you wouldn't think of because of our overall record. We had a number of underclassmen get lots of valuable varsity experience. We were competitive in many of the games we played. We became better baseball players and now understand the game a lot more".
Davis felt a lot of the kids didn't know what to expect, since they'd never played varsity baseball before. Now that the year is almost over they know what they have to work on between now and next year. To be competitive in district, they will need to improve in all facets of the game, hitting, pitching and fielding. A lefty on the mound would help, but that may be a few years off.
Coach Davis's World Series pick? Texas over Philadelphia in seven games. Personally, I wouldn't mind the Rangers in the World Series, but I have St. Louis over the Rangers.
Dates to mark on your calendar:
This Saturday, April 30 - annual alumni baseball game, 11am at Ben Gill Park
June 7-9th (tentative) - baseball camp from 9a - noon for K - 8th graders
January 27, 2012 - first day of practice for the Tiger's new season!

New home
We haven't seen a lot of new home construction in Terrell. So, when you see a new home going up, you watch it to see what its going to look like. I love this house and how they are building it around the existing trees.

Weather events
Its seems like bad weather has been hitting everywhere this Spring. Thankfully, the last few days we've only had rain in Terrell. Areas south of Terrell have gotten hail, heavy rain and tornadoes.
Tricia, Brians Sister, who writes and posts at Bluff Area Daily has been keeping watch on the flooding in her hometown, Poplar Bluff, MO. She has some photos on her site taken on Monday.
It hard to get a shot of rain, so here is a heavily altered shot of Moore Ave from Monday night. This view hasn't changed for probably the past 10 years.
I noticed the Magnolia trees are starting to blossom. I'll have to take a walk around the neighborhood and find a nice shot.
Don't mess with Texas Trash-Off in Terrell.

Heart of Heath 5K
Yesterday was the Heart of Heath 5k in Heath, TX. There were over 450 registered runners and 420 finishers, an amazing turnout.
Before medals were awarded, numbers were drawn for prizes. I didn't win a prize, but being able to run a 5K already makes me a winner. At least that's what the guy giving out the prizes told all us losers.
One of the things I noticed that was different than the Fountain 5K in Terrell the Saturday before, other than more than 400 more people, was the number of young people that ran. The organizers of the Terrell run could learn a lot from the people who organize the races in Rockwall County.

Rain delay
The Tigers played West Mesquite last night at home. The game was interrupted for almost 15 minutes for a storm to pass through.
The Tigers have one remaining home game, April 29th against Ennis. That night will be Senior Night. The following Saturday morning, the 30th is the annual Alumni game. Odd years vs even years, game time is 11am and its FREE.
There wasnt much lightning or wind, but there was rain and small hail.
Bojangles the Tiger watched the rain from the top of the water cooler in the dugout.

Tigers at home tonight
Tonight is one of your last chances to see Cody Weishaar and the rest of the Class of 2011 in action at Ben Gill Park. The Tigers host the Wranglers from West Mesquite, first pitch 7PM. Weishaar should be awarded the District Defensive Player of the Year Award with his outstanding play in center field. In their first meeting at West Mesquite, Cody Patton pitched into the 7th inning in route to a 7-3 Tiger win.
Friday night the Tigers travel to Lancaster. They close out the season on April 29th at home against Ennis. Make plans to be at the game for Senior Night.

I heard on the radio that a great way to increase traffic to your site was to mention Donald Trump and birthers. I really don't have an opinion on either one, but I do like Celebrity Apprentice.

Season winding down
The Tigers baseball season is starting to wind down. They host West Mesquite tomorrow night. After that they only have one home game remaining, on April 29th. That will be Senior night. I added to iHigh a gallery from the Forney game. Give it a look. I also added to iHigh the current hitting and pitching stats for the Tigers. The Tigers record is 6-23 overall and 2-11 in district play. www.ihigh.com/terrelltigers

Jackrabbits make quick work of the Tigers
Friday night, the Forney Jackrabbits defeated the Tigers 13-0 in a run rule game. The game started fine for the Tigers. The leadoff batter for the Jackrabbits hit a ground out to shortstop. It was down hill from there. The Jackrabbits put 17 of the next 23 batters on base and took a 12-0 lead after 3 innings.
The Lady Tigers softball team defeated West Mesquite Friday afternoon 5-4.
Coach Mike Halac, girls baseketball coach, is leaving the district to take another coaching job out of state. Sorry to see him go.

Tiger Alumni
Yesterday afternoon I was able to leave work a little early and watch a couple of Tiger alumni play college ball. Logan Smith, Class of 2009 and Chuck Daugherty, Class of 2010 both play for LeTourneau University. They are in Richardson for a 3 game series against UT-Dallas. Logan is starting centerfielder and Chuck is the starting catcher. Barrett Calverley, Class of 2010 is also on the LeTourneau roster as a pitcher.
The Tigers baseball team lost their game last night to Waxahachie. They are on the road Tuesday night in Red Oak.

Meet the newest Tiger
Darrell Jordan accepted the position of Athletic Director/Head Football Coach at Terrell High School a few weeks ago. Last night was the first chance for the fans of Tiger sports to meet him. Terrell ISD Kelly Rogers introduced Coach Jordan to the crowd and in his introduction he mentioned that he has never had more superintendents and educators contact him and tell him what an excellent job they did and how successful Terrell will be under his leadership.
Spring football and 7 on 7 is just around the corner.
The Tigers baseball team travels to Mesquite tonight to take on the Poteet Pirates. The Tigers will have to play a perfect game to defeat the Pirates. Poteet has won 52 district baseball games in a row. They finished the first have of district 8-0, while Terrell has a 2-6 district record. Game time is 7PM.
Are you coming out to Terrell for the Heritage Jubilee? Below is the ad running on local TV. Some of the pictures used are from me.

Under construction
Saturdays Lions 5K was held in Rockwall, which is in Rockwall County just up the road from Terrell, which is in Kaufman County. Across the road from the 5K is the new construction site of the new Rockwall County Courthouse. I love the look of the building, its more traditional than other government buildings going up.
Today at 6 pm the Terrell Athletic Booster Club will co-sponsor a reception in the foyer of the Athletic Complex to Welcome Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Darrell Jordan.
Have you visited iHigh yet? Have you visited from every computer in your house? Every visit benefits the Terrell Athletic Booster Club.
Less than 2 weeks till the Heritage Jubilee and the Fountain 5K. Have you registered for the run?

Tigers run rule Lancaster one base at a time
Friday night the Terrell Tigers run ruled the Lancaster Tigers 10-0, but it wasn't easy. The game got off to a late start when the Lancaster bus didn't show up until 7:05. Once the game did start, it was slow going. The Tigers scored their 10 runs with only one extra base hit, a double by Heath Hottinger in the bottom of the first inning. The Tigers scored 3 times in the 1st inning on 3 singles and a double, 3 times in the 3rd inning on 1 single, 2 walks, an error and a sacrifice fly and 3 times in the 4th inning on 2 walks, 2 errors, 1 single and a sacrifice fly. They added the 10th run in the bottom of the 5th inning on a walk, error and a single.
The Tigers pitchers pitched a 5 inning no-hitter. Lancaster had only one base runner the entire game who reached on a 4th inning error. Cale Wardlaw started on the mound for the Tigers, pitching 3 innings, giving up 0 hits, and striking out 4. Hunter Cheney pitched the final 2 innings, giving up 0 hits and striking out 2. They didn't walk anyone.
The Tigers will try for 3 in a row this afternoon in Ennis.
