Puerto Rican film industry is not known to a large number of cinéphiles. This might have something to do with the fact that most film festivals show only a handful of Puerto Rican films."I am a Director" is a new Puerto Rican film which effectively uses its 'comedy film' status to comment on the film making process in Puerto Rica.We get to see how film making is a collective process for which everybody needs to contribute. As "I am a Director" is set within a film,it gives viewers ample chance to observe closely how actors and actresses have their caprices. No film can succeed if the script has not been properly developed. This crucial aspect of film making has got special focus in this film as the protagonist hopes to make a film without bothering to have a finished screenplay. His "it is all in the head" approach brings a lot of laughter.Actor Carlos Marchand with his antics as a débutant director is convincing. All those who have difficulties finding finances for their first films might not have any trouble in identifying themselves with his plight.
