Feng Yueh(1901-1999)

After completing apprenticeship training at the Asia Photography School
in Shanghai, Griffin Yueh Feng entered the film industry 1929 as an
film extra. He then moved behind the camera as a continuity and
assistant director. In 1949, Yueh moved to Hong Kong and joined the
Great Wall Company as a director, then in 1959 became a director at the
Shaw Brothers studio. He retired from film in 1974, having made over 90
films during his more than 40 years in the industry. His films were
characterized by an emphasis on Chinese traditional values and culture.
While he never received an individual award for any of his films,
several Yue-directed films were nominated or won in other categories,
and he was honored at several awards ceremonies in the 1990s for career
achievement. Feng Yue passed away on July 3rd, 1999 in Hong Kong at the
age of 89.
