In 1993 she had finished the manuscript for her book "Bare skyer
beveger stjernene" about a family who looses their son to cancer.
Tragically in 1995 Torun Lian herself lost her only son, Mathias, in a
car accident. A year later she started planning the filming of her own
book, eventually making her directorial debut with the film "Bare skyer
beveger stjernene" (1998) and ending up winning the Ingmar Bergman
Award in Sweden (the first Norwegian to do so).
