Sheree da Costa is an actor-dancer with credits in film, TV and music theatre. She is an ex-Principal dancer with The Australian Ballet and former artist with Sydney Dance Company.
Career highlights include: feature film Risen (2021) (dir. Eddie Arya) in the role of Governor Williams; Sydney Dance Company as guest artist for its 50th anniversary season in 2019; Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! (2001) as Assistant Choreographer; various short films including Handled (2023) (dir. Glenn Fraser) in the role of The Maestra; and the award-winning The Skydiver & the Scarecrow (2017) (dir. Ren Thackham) in the role of Skydiver.
Of special note is Dancing with My Mother (2022) (dir. Richard de Carvalho) in the role of The Dancer. The heartfelt short film is a self-devised semi-biographical tribute to her late son Joey Atkins, which started touring the festival circuit in 2023.
Recent theatre credits include a successful season of 'Burn Witch Burn' (2022, dir. Claudia Osborne, Redline Productions/Fervour) at the Old Fitz Theatre in the role of Flora Carr. Suzy Wrong of Suzy Goes See wrote: "The cast of five embodies that mystery well, willing to be looked at but not really seen, with performer Sheree da Costa leaving a particularly strong impression, full of mesmerising intensity and admirable physical discipline."
Sheree made her directorial debut with 'RED YELLOW BLUE', written by her late son Joseph, for Short+Sweet Sydney 2022, which won Judges Choice for Week 1. Lynn Belvedere of Sydney Arts Guide wrote: "Superb text, intensive dialogue. Scintillating comedy banter with the best and worst of incorrectly formed relationships. The best of the best on Opening Night."
