We will honor the beloved legacy of our co-founders the late Reverend Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani and showcase the vision and Love Agenda of our new CEO and President Dr. Gina Fromer.

The ultimate soul crooner, Oakland, California native Lenny Williams possesses one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music. With his rich, passionate vocal style, he is rightfully regarded as one of R&B’s most influential soul men.
Lenny himself sounds better than ever as he continues to keep the focus on love. The impact of his music can still be felt, particularly the mega-hit “Cause I Love You”, which crossed generational boundaries, and has frequently been used on “old school” and “slow jam” compilations throughout the years.

Christian Gates, known professionally as The Philharmonik, is an American vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, lyricist, music producer and hip-hop artist. Recently, he has been nationally and globally recognized after winning the 2023 American Song writer contest and NPR’s 2024 Tiny Desk Contest for his song “What’s it all Mean?” (Kironic).
The Philharmonik debuted his self-produced album The Philharmonik in 2018, under Soul Collective (Sacramento, CA) music label. The album includes feature songs “Neon Lights”, “Mama’s House”, “Pay me” and “Good Day” which offer a variety of styles, appealing to a wide audience base. In 2019, The Philharmonik went on tour across the United States and Canada, performing as an opening act on Hobo Johnson’s first tour. In the Summer of 2022, The Philharmonik debuted his third album Kironic which holds a rich variety of musical styles and meaningful lyrics, reflecting his search for happiness and meaning.
Inspired by the African proverb, “If you can speak, you can sing,” Vernon has dedicated himself to using the power of voice as a tool for healing and personal transformation. His unique approach has positively impacted countless individuals through both group workshops and private sessions.
Vernon’s musical leadership at Glide Memorial Church revitalized the Glide Ensemble, through the joy of singing. After recently stepping away from his role at Glide, Vernon has begun a new chapter, sharing his own original compositions from his long-awaited debut album.
GLIDE’s Center for Social Justice is working hard to spread democracy. We continue to phonebank every Thursday in support of Proposition 6. And we’re out tabling through October to help get out the vote!
