This activity was made for Miss Oppelt's class to enhance our reading of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. This was to help us understand more about putting events in order. I hope everyone enjoyed has a better understanding of sequencing events.
Introduction
We are going to find out what happens when a little boy decides to give a mouse a cookie. We will get to see what happens when the mouse needs a glass of milk to wash the cookie down. His needs do not stop after the glass of milk is given to him. We will see how one event leads to another. This story will teach us how to put events in order and predict what the mouse will need next. Here is a link to watch an animated version of the story....

Task
Earlier we read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Your job is to teach this story,in order, to another classmate. You will have pictures that need to be put in order to match the story. Then, you will use these pictures to retell the story to your classmate.
You and your partner will:
- Understand the order in which the events happen.
- Try to predict what will happen next
- Recall what happens in the story
On your own:
- Think about three things you do every morning
- Draw a picture of these events in order in your reading notebook
- If you have time, compare your routine to your partners.
Process
Work with your partner to complete each of the following steps:
1. Put the pictures in the order you think they happened in the story.
2. Go back through the story and change any of the events that you had out of order.
3. Make a list of any that you had out of order.
4. Find another classmate and retell the story by using the cut out pictures provided.
5. In your reading notebook, think about your morning routine and draw 3 events in order.
