Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire Reportedly Party Like It's 1996

Following Tuesday’s announcement of Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer’s split, Page Six is now reporting that Tobey and his BFF Leonardo DiCaprio have been spotted partying together, just like old times. Sources tell Page Six that Tobey has been “seen with and without Leo” at Los Angeles clubs for months, adding that Tobey’s separation from his wife of nine years had also been in the works for “many months.” “It looks like Leo’s rubbed off on him,” says one nightlife source. Page Six notes that Tobey’s recent partying is not a secret and that the end of his marriage had nothing to do with a third party. Says another source, “He’s just going to the clubs with Leo — that’s what’s happening.” One favorite venue as of late has been Leo’s fave as well — 1Oak in L.A., which Tobey has frequented “more often than usual.”

Of course, this partying makes one think of Leo and Tobey’s infamous “Pussy Posse” of the ‘90s. In 1998, New York Magazine published one of the most important pop culture stories of the century, aptly titled “Leo, Prince of the City,” in which writer Nancy Jo Sales documented in great detail what life was like for the “hottest young actor in American and his rowdy friends” in New York City. Leo was a mere 23-years-old at the time. Romeo + Juliet had come out two years prior, followed by the underrated Marvin’s Room and of course, your fave and mine, Titanic. Describing the posse, one photographer told Sales, “They’re all about seeing the girls.” The article goes on to describe the posse as “unofficial bodyguards” for Leo on movie sets and human carriers of Leo’s cash. On Tobey, Sales called him “the pensive youth in The Ice Storm.” Other members included Lukas Haas, director Harmony Korine, magician David Blaine, Jay R. Ferguson, Kevin Connelly, Ethan Suplee, and Joshua John Miller (from Teen Witch). Several female celebs also had memberships, including Sarah Gilbert and Amber Benson.

While it’s unlikely the entire posse will ever get together for a full-fledged reunion (I mean, never say never), a mini version happened in February at an after party for Leo and his Oscar. One source told The New York Daily News at the time that the group, which included Lukas Haas and Tobey Maguire, called themselves “The Wolf Pack” and proceeded to howl “like wolves all night.” They also reportedly chanted their new name throughout the evening.
