OAU Teaching Hospital Comfirms Osun Doctor Died Of Lassa Fever

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex today through a laboratory test has confirmed that the resident doctor’s death on Monday at the hospital was caused by Lassa fever.

The doctor is said to have passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016, after vomiting blood within the hospital premises.

Prof. Adedeji Onayade, Chairman of a committee set up by the OAUTHC on Lassa fever told PUNCH.

These twin toddlers died yesterday after a fire burned through their Prince George's County home in Maryland. The twins, Israel and Anna Omijie, were taken to Children's Hospital, but died as a result of their injuries, upon arrival to the hospital.
The grandparents, Caroline Omogbo, 55, and Samson Omogbo, 63, were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say there were 3 additional people in the home at the time of the fire, the mother of the twins jumped from the 2nd floor and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Nigerian twin toddlers and their grandparents has been reported dead on Tuesday after a house caught fire overnight in Chillum, Maryland, USA. The twins’ mother jumped from a second-floor window and is expected to survive her injuries.

Prince George’s County officials said that the 2-years old toddlers, Anna and Israel Omijie, were both killed, and their grandparents, Carolyn Omogbo, 55 and Sampson Omogbo, 63, also died after they were trapped inside a separate room as investigators found no evidence the rental home had working smoke detectors.

Lassa Fever Claims 63, Spread To 17 States

The Federal Government said on Tuesday that Lassa fever has claimed 63 lives out of 212 suspected reported from 62 local government areas in affected states.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, confirmed this at the emergency National Council of Health meeting in Abuja on the outbreak of the disease.

Police are looking for a 30-year-old flight attendant who went missing in Queens

A 30-year-old Queens flight attendant is missing after last being seen at LaGuardia Airport Thursday, January 14.

According to Pix 11 news, Sierra Shields was last seen around noon that day speaking to her supervisor. The Delta flight attendant reportedly quit her job and left the airport in a navy blue dress. Shields never made the flight she was scheduled to fly later that day and still hasn’t been seen since. Her phone and wallet were reportedly found in her apartment.

People who arrive in Britain to marry should improve their English within two and a half years or face being asked to leave, David Cameron has said.
The Prime Minister said tests will be introduced to check progress on migrants who arrive in Britain on a spousal visa and failure will mean there are no guarantees an individual will be allowed to stay - even if they have children.

Mr Cameron said the new push on language skills was part of a wider strategy to prevent extremism in isolated communities - insisting 'segregation needs to go'.
Some £20million will be available specifically to help women who are isolated in communities which have not integrated properly in Britain.

In a BBC radio Today interview, Mr Cameron said: 'This is about building a more integrated, cohesive, one nation country where there is genuine opportunity for people.
'Of course, if you don't speak the language your opportunities are very much reduced.'
Mr Cameron said the message to new arrivals to Britain was 'learning English is essential'.
On the new tests, Mr Cameron said: 'It is not just Muslim women.
'It is when people come under a spousal visa because they are marrying someone who is already here then after two and a half years they should be improving their English and we will be testing that.'

Teenager Gang Raped While Walking With Father In Playground

Four teenagers have been arrested and another is still at large after an-18-year-old was raped in a playground.

The victim was walking through the Brooklyn playground with her father when the attack happened.

Police said they pointed a gun at the father and ordered him to leave before taking it in turns to rape the woman. The father later returned with two police officers and the attackers fled.

The turned up at a dealership with 80,000 RMB in notes – that's around £8,400.

The manager said he had half a mind to turn the client away after the man showed up with banknotes with a face value of between 1 RMB (10p) and 10 RMB cents (1p).

Gu told reporters: 'I had never seen so much money in my life', adding that the entire dealership 'smelt like money' after Cai dragged in his half-tonne deposit.

Reports did not say how long it took Gu and his staff to count the money.

A 38-year-old doctor in Sweden who has been charged with kidnap, rape and sexual abuse is believed to have intended to keep a woman in her 30s locked up for several years in a case likened to that of serial abuser Joseph Fritzl.

He took his victim to a police station after learning she had been reported missing a week, forcing her to make up a story about her whereabouts.

A newborn baby girl seemingly to have been dumped in a pit toilet was recovered by police earlier this morning (Monday) in Ramatlhwa village, Matlala.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, members of the police Search and Rescue unit were called out early Monday morning after residents alerted the police to the sounds of a baby crying in a pit toilet. “Sergeant Levi Mabethlela eventually succeeded in bringing the newborn girl back to the surface, where after she was taken to hospital for treatment,” said Otto.

Operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, weekend, in Benin, Edo State, reportedly arrested a leader of a gang of bank robbers, who usually disguised as a woman during operations.The alleged leader of the notorious gang of bank robbers, Clement Abanara, was arrested by the police in an apartment at the Osayande Estate.

Vanguard gathered that the suspect, also known asMillion, allegedly took part in the Lekki, Ikorodu, Festac and Agbara bank robberies (all in Lagos), where his gang carted away millions of naira, destroyed several vehicles and left several persons, including policemen and a pregnant woman, dead.

The IRT, led by CSP Abba Kyari, had in November 2015, launched a manhunt for the bank robbers. Kelly Fotor, one of the suspects arrested at a wedding in Sapele, Delta State, had told Vanguard that Million was the only member of the gang who disguised as a woman during operations.

Fotor also told Vanguard that Million is an experienced kidnapper, who has over eight rifles in his possession.

Ooni Pays Historic Visit To Alaafin of Oyo

The newly crowned Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Sunday paid a historic visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who celebrated his 45th coronation anniversary.

The visit by Ooni was unique as he became the first Ife monarch to visit the Alaafin since 1937.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Razak Adeofalade, the Chairman of the union said the house rats that caused Lassa Fever are mostly in contact with garri which is a cassava product.

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, has been caught on tape using an officer of Nigeria’s secret police, the State Security Service, to clean his shoes in public.

A video obtained by PREMIUM TIMES showed the minister, dressed in white gown, relaxing on a couch with his legs stretched out.

The SSS officer appeared from the sides, with a handkerchief in his right hand and a holstered service pistol protruding from his jacket.
