2023 year in review

ASU researchers are partnering with NASA to explore a metal-rich asteroid, establishing a testbed to advance our nations’ domestic microelectronics production, and are on the cusp of launching a new medical school to improve the health of all Arizonans.

Securing cyberphysical systems

Cyberphysical systems are a combination of hardware and software components that control a piece of equipment. Concern is growing that these systems are vulnerable to attack, including ones in widespread use on U.S. military bases. An ASU team is developing a suite of tools that officials can use to reverse engineer middle-scale cyberphysical systems.

A national cybersecurity hub

Cybersecurity threats to critical infrastructure are one of the country’s greatest risks. DARPA funding will help a develop master’s program in AI applications for computer security, inspired by the idea that it takes a great thief to catch one. The American Cybersecurity Education (ACE) Institute will educate our future cybersecurity professionals and address workforce shortages.

Deepfakes are fake images, videos or voice recordings. Thanks to technology powered by AI, creating these lifelike imitations is easier and cheaper than ever.
