Alex Rodriguez s Wife Left Him Over Alleged Affair with Madonna

The Yankee star's wife blames his rumored romance with the singer and interest in Kabbalah for the split, sources tell PEOPLE

After putting up with years of flirtations with other women, Alex Rodriguez’s wife Cynthia finally left the Yankee star over his rumored affair with Madonna and his newfound interest in Kabbalah, according to sources close to the situation.

“Cynthia has left Alex,” a source tells PEOPLE. “Let’s see if she goes for the divorce. He did make her sign a prenup.”

“Cynthia is a strong person,” a close family member says. “But a wife with two young children can only take so much.”

Another source close to the slugger’s wife adds: “The embarrassment over Madonna was the last straw. She flew to Paris to get out of town before everything blew up between them. There is no affair with Lenny Kravitz. They are good friends.'”

Kravitz issued his own denial Thursday when the reports first surfaced.

According to the New York Post, Rodriguez s former trainer Dodd Romero, now godfather to the couple’s two daughters, believes the New York Yankee star has been drawn away from his family by the excitement of Madonna.

Alex, God bless him, is lost, says Romero, who spent last week in Paris with Cynthia. I think he got pulled in by the dark side, if you can say that nicely. He s totally brainwashed….[Cynthia] believes that is what ruined the marriage.

Madonna’s rep earlier told PEOPLE: “Madonna and Alex have the same manager, Guy Oseary. They have met. They know each other and Madonna took her kids to a Yankees game last week. There’s really not anything to comment on beyond that.”

According to a Miami event planner, Rodriguez has spent the past year immersed in the Kabbalah, learning all he can about it.

Alex is very interested in Kabbalah and has gone to the centers in south Florida and other cities, the source says. He is totally committed to its teachings and is loyal to the organization. He has an acute understanding of it.

With her five-year marriage in question, “Cynthia is in good spirits and is going with the flow,” says a close Miami friend of hers.

“She didn t deny a lot of things are in the air and rumors are swirling, but she did not elaborate on the state of her marriage. She said, ‘Never a dull moment.'”
