Sketch_Dailies - It's Droopy
Yesterday's Sketch_Dailies topic was Droopy from the old MGM cartoons by Tex Avery. Here's my film noir take on the lovable Basset Hound that also features a cameo by another Tex Avery character.

Sketch_Dailies - Jafar
Hope all my fellow street rats are doing well! Here's my take on Jafar for Sketch_Dailies! It's a great way to just sketch without having to worry about what to sketch. They just tell you :)

Sketch Time: Special Work Meeting Edition
I love meetings because they're a great time to sketch my coworkers. Here's my friend rocking the school teacher look. Just keep drawing, just keep drawing!

Even Predators Need A Health Plan!
I got the idea for this gag while joking around with my friend the other day. The joke will only be apparent to fans of the movie or to people who are at least somewhat familiar with the mythology, but I'm ok with that. I grew up loving the original "Predator" movie and actually used to draw my own versions of the character. So in a way this illustration is for fans like me.
In case you're just 'dying' to know what the joke is, I'm still happy to explain it. In the movies whenever a Predator is injured beyond recovery and about to lose, they are supposed to initiate a self destruct sequence using their arm-tech thingy that detonates after about 30 seconds. So naturally the poor Predator patient has no insurance to cover whatever he may have come to the doctor for, so the doctor in turn initiates the self-destruct sequence for him.
It really is a shame that I live in such a highly developed country and yet proper health care is practically unattainable.

Girl Scout Cookie Time!
Thankfully my coworker has become my recent supplier because of her direct connections (supposedly through her daughter's "organization"). Now she's been able to hook me up with 100% pure uncut Samoa cookies and I couldn't be happier :)

Giddy Up! Drawing is a Cruel Mistress
This drawing is from a life drawing session that my work hosts for employees to come draw after work. I feel very fortunate to be in a place that not only appreciates creativity but fosters it they way BRC Imagination Arts does. At the very least I have a chance to draw from life again.
I don't do nearly as much life drawing as I should, but truthfully it gets harder and harder after you leave school. My saving grace is that I'm still always drawing, just not necessarily from life. When you're working on projects like animatic films that are 4-6 minutes long and require hundreds of storyboards to be drawn and rendered by hand, it's kind of hard to find additional time just for a drawing workshop.
But now that I'm done making excuses :P I will say that drawing from life at this stage of my development is both relaxing and stressful. When things are coming together, there's no feeling quite like it. You're 'in the zone' so to speak and you could just draw for days.
But then there are also those moments when you're confident, probably even a bit cocky, at the drawings you're about to make. The model takes his or her pose and you start to put material to paper and all of sudden your arm feels like the way a newborn deer's legs act. It seems like all your years and hours of training have gone out the window because you haven't drawn from life or on paper in such a long time. This is only compounded by your realization that you can't hit 'control Z' or stretch or warp your drawing. What's there is there and all you can do is erase if you're lucky enough to not be using an unforgiving medium.
It's only then that you realize yet again that drawing is a cruel mistress unforgiving of any negligence.

Dana Scully from Fox's "The X Files"
"Again with the aliens, Mulder?"
I've been re-watching The X Files on Netflix and I can't believe how amazing this show is. I'm glad I'm getting to watch it again because my Junior High brain was not equipped to understand the mastery of the storytelling and character development by Mr. Chris Carter. Can't wait to see how they adapt to the modern age with Scully and Mulder reopening the X Files.

Regina the Evil Queen from "Once Upon A Time"
I was a big "Once Upon A Time" fan for the first 3 seasons and especially of the villains of the show. It's definitely a fun show and I love how they interpret the classic fairy tales and blend them within a modern setting while still rooting them in their origins. I don't want to say anything more than that so as to not spoil anything for anyone, but I was surprised to find one of my favorite two characters being Regina the 'Evil Queen.'

Megara (that's Meg to you) from Disney's "Hercules"
I always felt like Meg never got enough love especially when compared against the rest of the Disney pantheon. I mean - I haven't seen many if any little girls dressed up as her for Halloween even though there are always plenty of Snow Whites, Cinderellas, Belles, etc. Oh, well. At least I can sketch her :)

Sketch 5 - Belle from Beauty and the Beast
This reminds me of those reading pins I got when I was a kid. For every book you read you'd get a sticker and once you filled up all 5 spots you could redeem it for a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut. Good times!
