Syracuse overcame a 14-0 halftime deficit to beat the Miami Hurricanes in the third Liberty Bowl.
SU scored on a 1-yard plunge by Ernie Davis with 5:02 left in the third quarter, and Dave Sarette hit Dick Easterly for the two-point conversion. Miami fumbled on its first play of the fourth quarter and Bill Schoonover recovered at the SU 49. Sarette found Easterly with a 7-yard scoring pass, and Ken Ericson kicked the decisive extra point.
In his final game in an SU uniform, Davis rushed for 140 yards on 30 carries. Sarette completed 13 passes for 148 yards, with Easterly and John Mackey each making four receptions.
