Jason D Best film adaptation Like Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, 1408 is a psychological thriller adapted from a story by Stephen King. The story also revolves around an alcoholic writer staying in a haunted hotel. It also has many differences from the original story, but unlike The Shining, 1408 received praise from Stephen King and was rated by him as one of his favorite adaptations. Stephen King once said: ”It's one of those rare adaptations that captures the spirit of the story while adding its own unique touches.” Roughly translated: “This is one of those rare adaptations that captures the spirit of the original story while adding its own unique touches.” The original story 1408 is a short story, the entire content is simply about a writer named Mike trapped in a spooky room called 1408. In the movie, Mike is not only a writer but also a husband and father. His daughter died early from illness. The pain of losing her child caused Mike to become an alcoholic, causing a rift in his relationship with his wife and then causing him to develop an extreme obsession with haunted places. It is also the main reason why Mike came to room 1408. By creating a cold, claustrophobic and tense atmosphere, the movie 1408 retains the spirit of the original by focusing on psychological horror elements, instead of bloody violence or jump scares. And movie 1408 does a better job than the original by using sound and visual effects to enhance the horror element and highlight the supernatural events in room 1408. The film not only focuses on horror elements but also delves into Mike's past, exploring Mike's pain, guilt and secret fears through the mental torture of room 1408. . It also expands in terms of content and characters. These changes make the story richer and deeper. The movie 1408 is not only a story about a writer trapped in a spooky room, but also a story about a father trying to overcome the pain of losing his child, a story about family and obsessions. . From there, the film emphasizes the importance of family and sends a message about love and hope. The movie 1408 satisfied Stephen King by being faithful to King's original work but also making the story more profound and meaningful than the original.
