Doctor Strange artfully balances its outré source material against the blockbuster constraints of the MCU, delivering a thoroughly entertaining superhero origin story in the bargain.

Barry Hertz Globe and Mail Doctor Strange, intended to be a mind-bending, rule-breaking rebuke to the squares of superhero cinema, turns out to be a rebel in name only -- the textbook definition of a bad trip. Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 31, 2016 Full Review Stephanie Zacharek TIME Magazine Cumberbatch, both a natural comedian and a subtle one, knows how to get a big laugh from nothing more than an arched eyebrow. Dec 31, 2016 Full Review Leonard Maltin leonardmaltin.com My reaction to this movie is mixed, at best. Dec 15, 2016 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson "Doctor Strange" follows the formula of success with structural similarity and goofy joy, but some of the same regrettable MCU flaws exist. Rated: 3/5 Apr 7, 2024 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Mindlessly entertaining, but even with Cumberbatch, it's the epitome of the formulaic Marvel machine. Rated: 3/5 May 12, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The names have changed and the powers are different, but it's more or less the same Marvel formula. Conrado awesome and amazing movie, Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/15/22 Full Review Aaron S Great movie. Benedict Cumberbatch was awesome, the entire cast was excellent. This is one I could go back and watch again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/14/22 Full Review Allie F This movie exceeded my expectations! I had read the comics and seen some cartoon versions of this, and was unsure how the story would translate into a MCU movie. However, the effects were great and I really got sucked into the storytelling. And what can I say? I'm a bit of a sucker for Cumberbatch movies because of the roles the enjoys playing - the protagonist who happens to be an eccentric genius that's damaged or lacking in social EQ in some way. A great origin story told in the form of another great MCU movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/22 Full Review Peter Perfect introduction/ adaptation for Doctor Strange in to the MCU. love the magic side of Marvel. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/19/21 Full Review Anthony L Cumberbatch reminds the world why he is not to be taken lightly as a leading man in this fantastic story. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/01/21 Full Review matthias s *Doctor Strange* dazzles with its mind-bending visuals and mystical plot, earning a solid 3.5 stars. As a Marvel fan, I appreciated the fresh departure from our usual tech and muscle heroes, diving into the realm of sorcery. Benedict Cumberbatch nails the arrogant-to-humbled arc of Stephen Strange, a surgeon turned sorcerer. The kaleidoscopic visuals and Inception-like sequences are nothing short of spectacular, making the movie a visual feast. However, the film's pacing stumbles at times, and the villain, Kaecilius, while menacing, doesn't quite leave a lasting impression compared to Marvel's other big bads. Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One adds a unique, albeit controversial, touch to the story. Despite its flaws, *Doctor Strange* successfully expands the MCU into mystical territories, offering enough wit, wonder, and wizardry to keep fans thoroughly entertained and eagerly awaiting the next spellbinding adventure.
