  • Mariners' Ryan Sloan: Falls to Seattle

The Mariners have selected Sloan with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Sloan has great size (6-foot-5, 220 pounds) and stuff, with a chance for three plus pitches in time. The prep righty out of Illinois sits in the mid-90s with his fastball and boasts one of the best changeups from the high school ranks while mixing in a quality low-80s sweeper. He excelled last summer on the showcase circuit and is committed to Wake Forest, but he finds himself a great landing spot with Seattle.

  • Mariners' Jurrangelo Cijntje: Headed to Seattle

The Mariners have selected Cijntje with the 15th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Cijntje is a natural lefty but started throwing right-handed as a child to emulate his father in the Netherlands, and he was considered a both-handed pitcher entering the draft. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound hurler started throwing as a righty against lefty hitters more this season for Mississippi State, and most evaluators would like to see him work full-time as a righty. He logged a 3.67 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 113 strikeouts in 90.2 innings this spring while sporting a 7.9 percent walk rate. As a righty, Cijntje's fastball sits in the mid-90s and touches 98 mph. His hard slider is his best secondary offering.

  • Mariners' Ryne Stanek: Exits with trainer

Stanek left Sunday's game against the Angels after walking the first batter he faced in the eighth inning on four straight balls, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.

Stanek came on in the eighth to protect a 2-0 lead after Logan Gilbert fired seven scoreless frames. All four of Stanek's pitches were well off the plate, and he left with a trainer. Andres Munoz, who was already the top Mariners reliever to roster in fantasy, should get the save chances going forward.

  • Mariners' Victor Robles: Getting third straight start

Robles will start in right field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Angels.

After generating three hits in Saturday's 2-1 loss, Robles will receive his third consecutive start, with the two last two coming against right-handed pitching. The Mariners could end up leaning on Robles as the primary replacement in the outfield for Dominic Canzone (adductor), who was placed on the injured list Wednesday.

  • Mariners' Ty France: Getting Sunday off

France is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Mariners manager Scott Servais will give France an early head start on the All-Star break after the 30-year-old had started each of the last six games while going 6-for-25 with three doubles, two RBI and one run. Luke Raley will fill in for France at first base.

  • Mariners' Victor Robles: Three hits in loss

Robles went 3-for-4 with a double in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Angels.

Robles had a good game from the No. 9 spot, but the Mariners' 4-8 hitters combined to go 0-for-16 with three walks, giving the outfielder little chance to make his hits count. It was his first multi-hit effort since June 14, though Robles has mostly been utilized as a bench bat in his time with the Mariners. He's slashing .259/.359/.389 with one home run, five RBI, six runs scored and six stolen bases over 67 plate appearances between the Nationals and the Mariners this season.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Quality start in loss

Kirby (7-7) allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Angels.

This marked just the third time all year Kirby walked multiple batters. He heads into the All-Star break with seven straight quality starts, though he's gone 2-2 in that span due to a continued lack of run support. Kirby owns an excellent 3.29 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 116:13 K:BB through 117.2 innings over 20 starts this season.

  • Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Sitting Saturday

Haniger isn't in the Mariners' lineup Saturday against the Angels.

Haniger will take a seat on the bench Saturday after going 1-for-7 with a run scored through the first two games of the series. While he rests, Victor Robles, Julio Rodriguez and Luke Raley will start across Seattle's outfield.

  • Mariners' Gabe Speier: Works one inning in rehab debut

Speier (shoulder) fired a scoreless inning in Triple-A Tacoma's loss to Albuquerque on Friday, allowing two hits and a walk without recording a strikeout.

Speier was also credited with the hold after his 14-pitch frame, which saw him locate half of his offerings for strikes. The left-hander is now slated to move down to the Mariners' ACL team for his next rehab appearance Monday, after which he'll be evaluated for potential activation coming out of the All-Star break.

  • Mariners' Mitch Garver: Multi-hit effort in Friday's loss

Garver went 2-for-5 with an RBI ground-rule double and a run in an extra-inning loss to the Angels on Friday.

Garver appeared to give the Mariners a path to an extra-inning victory with his 10th-inning two-bagger, which brought home Josh Rojas to snap a 4-4 tie. Seattle would go on to fall in the bottom of the frame on Willie Calhoun's two-run home run, nullifying Garver's sixth RBI in his last seven games. The veteran offseason addition has had his moments during the first half of his Mariners debut campaign, but he's still limping along with a .178 average and .654 OPS across 310 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Lifts 10th homer in loss

Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in an extra-inning loss to the Angels on Friday.

Rodriguez's July tear continued in notable fashion Friday, with the red-hot outfielder getting the scoring started via a 378-foot shot to center in the first inning with Mitch Garver aboard. Rodriguez now has 10 hits in his last four games alone, and after a 14-game homer drought between June 16 and July 3, he's left the yard on three occasions in the last eight contests.

  • Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Crushes 20th homer

Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk in Friday's loss to the Angels.

The Mariners catcher slugged a monstrous 423-foot, two-run homer off Tyler Anderson in the third inning. Raleigh has been on a tear lately, hitting five homers over his past four games while batting .471 (8-for-17). He leads all catchers in homers with 20. Overall, the 27-year-old is now slashing .218/.303/.443 with 61 RBI and 40 runs scored across 350 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Bryan Woo: Shelled in return

Woo did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Angels, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out just one.

Despite his fastball clocking in at 94.9 mph, up 0.2 mph from his season average, Woo looked rusty in his return from a hamstring injury against an unspectacular Angels lineup. The Seattle right-hander generated only six whiffs on 66 pitches and allowed a career-high nine hits. Even with this poor performance, Woo closes out the first half with a 2.45 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 29:5 K:BB across 44 innings.

  • Mariners' Josh Rojas: Taking seat Friday

Rojas is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.

The lefty-hitting Rojas will be held out of the starting nine against southpaw Tyler Anderson and the Angels. Dylan Moore will bat ninth and play third base Friday.

  • Mariners' Luke Raley: Idle against lefty

Raley is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.

Raley will yield to Victor Robles in left field Friday as the Angels trot out southpaw Tyler Anderson. Raley had started each of the Mariners' previous three games, going 1-for-10 with two runs scored.
