Danny Trejo responds after throwing chair and getting knocked down during fight at Fourth of July parade

Danny Trejo is speaking out after he was involved in a physical altercation during a Fourth of July parade in Los Angeles this week.

"I'm so sad that I behaved the way I behaved," the 80-year-old Machete actor told TMZ, recalling the holiday incident, which allegedly occurred after someone threw a water balloon at his vintage car during the festivities.

"I'm so sad that grown men gotta throw water balloons to enjoy a day," he continued. "I don't think I would've even got out of the car if somebody hadn't yelled, 'It's acid!' That's when I got panicked. When I got out of the car — boom! — then a balloon hit me. Then I look up and I see a guy holding [one]. I went over [and said,] 'What in the hell is wrong with you?'"

Video footage that TMZ obtained shows multiple people surrounding Trejo's car and shouting "no water" after the balloon hit his convertible. The actor then exits the vehicle and confronts a group of people on a nearby sidewalk before appearing to throw a punch at one man, throwing a chair, and later tumbling off the curb. 

A representative for Trejo did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment.

While speaking with TMZ, Trejo claimed that he "stepped back" and "fell off the curb" after a man tried to grab him. He also seemed to insinuate that he thought the incident was racially motivated.

"I'm sad. I'm just sad," he said. "There's still people like from the '50s and '60s that still feel the same way, because no one else was targeted. No one else was targeted."

Mario Castillo, Trejo's friend who was with him during the brawl, offered his own account. "It was targeted," he claimed. "There was nobody else who was getting hit with balloons in front of us or behind us. They were just at our lowriders."

Castillo also showed some of the injuries he said he received from people "stomping on my arms" and "holding me down," as well as several injuries near his eye on the right side of his face. 

Trejo said he wasn't injured during the incident. "I'm alright. They couldn't hurt me," he said. "It was sad… I would be embarrassed if I attacked an 80-year-old man and he's still talking and laughing."
