Alice’s 5-star review: Yay! I found the best dessert cafe in SF city, but unfortunately it's too far from me ;_; I will be comparing this dessert shop to the other HK-style dessert shops in this area, like 100% Sweet Cafe, Kowloon, Creations Desserts, etc. Food: This place has hands-down the best food and desserts of the 4-5 dessert shops in SF. Some examples: Purple Rice & Coconut Milk: Not overcooked, the purple price still holds a tight and crunchy texture, rather than the sloppy mush that is served at other places. Served warm or cold, the perfect level of sweetness and texture. Tapicoa & Sago & Coconut Milk: Honey boba in mild and creamy coconut with sago. Perfect sweetness and the tapioca was sticky and just the right texture Pork chop sandwich: Don't look down on this tasty $5.25 sandwich! It's fresh, hot and perfectly cooked and assembled. Get the spicy one for the same price for a little more flavor. Curry fish balls: This curry is THICK! Thick and rich curry with little bits of chicken/meat that you can actually pick out from the curry. Not the thin, yellow colored dishwater that gets served at some places. Keep the curry sauce to dip your popcorn chicken in. Popcorn Chicken: Crunchy, fresh, solid. Served with bits of deep fried basil and a tube of shicihimi you can use to taste. Watermelon Juice: The watermelon juice at other dessert cafes have sugar or syrup added, or maybe even powders. This watermelon juice is fresh, 100% fruit with no sugar added. I can tell because it's not that sweet! It tastes like watermelon that got blended up, and there wasn't any sugar water added to "pad it out" like some other cheap places do. Ambience: This place has the best ambience of the dessert cafes. It's small, smaller than Creations Desserts, about the same size as Kowloon. That means that this place will have a sizeable line on busy nights or afternoons. The place is also a bit cramped, which means people might be rubbing elbows with other patrons. However, the lighting here is bright and cozy, the furniture is not in great condition, but way less dingy than the furniture at other places. In general, it looks the most kept-up, and that contributes to a better experience. -
Alice’s 5-star review: This place is so pretty and fantastic. Coming here and just looking at the sweets, is a treat in and of itself. I've come here twice so far, and tried pretty much a little bit of everything. It's also very fun because they have an open glass window into the kitchen, so while you eat you can ponder how all the delicious stuff is made. Note that the location is very small and they only have 4 bar stools for a single counter. Not good for large groups or hanging out. Truffles ($2.00 ea): Delicious and creamy, very interesting flavor options, and so pretty to look at :) Take pictures of the display case! Strawberry Mousse Cake ($6.00): I wish this sweet was a bit lighter, but it's interesting how many different flavor layers are in here. It would be interesting if they tried a lighter flavor like Lychee or Rose? Blueberry Tart ($6.00): Very nice crust with juicy blueberries and a yogurty kind of cream. Solid, but nothing to write home about. Just good :D Gelato Bars: I love these little gelato bars-- coated with chocolate and various toppings, they are the right size to eat without feeling guilty :D I had a normal sea-salt caramel one, which is what you expect, and a more interesting one that had a blend of orange, pistachioes and number of other things that you normally would find in a fruit cake. It was kind of interesting, but not every bite was solid. Either way, I highly recommend coming here to treat yourself. It's not grossly expensive and it's good as a reward for a good week's work. -
Alice’s 4-star review: Cheap prices, nothing too amazing, but snacks are solid. Egg Waffle/Bubble Waffle: This was really good! The inside had the good eggy consistency with a crunchy outside. I wish they offered fillings, that would really bump it up. Curry Fishballs: Tasty, it's fine! I used the curry as dipping for my Tofu. Fried Tofu: Really nicely fried with a soft center. Came with a really weak soy sauce, and some XO sauce. Sago + Black Rice + Coconut Milk: This was a huge disappointment because the coconut milk was SUPER weak. It didn't have much sugar or texture. When I want coconut milk on my sago, I want the thick, creamy and sweet kind. This was like watered down skim milk. Strawberry Juice: Nice and fresh!~ Tortoise Jelly: Strange filmy top, bitter in a bitter kind of a way, not in the herbal way. Not bad though :) -
Alice’s 4-star review: Yummy crepes, and they do a good job with the outside crepe part-- it's always made fresh, and they bake it on the crispier side, which I prefer. I've tried Strawberry Banana Whip and Strawberry Banana Nutella Whip. I'd say with Nutella it gets a little cloyingly sweet, but just fruits and whip is always good :) Prices is are reasonable, with a strawberry banana whip crepe being only a little over $5.00 Cash only! -
Alice’s 3-star review: I really like the bottles-- I might buy them just for the bottles, they're cute and nice to have at home. If I remember, I'll bring it back for a discount :) Their milk teas are way too sweet-- they didn't offer any sweetness options, so i didn't ask. Maybe if I did, they might be able to control the sugar levels? It was completely caramel saturated, so it was kind of difficult to enjoy. I'll still try it again though-- I think the milk tea itself was pretty tasty, if it wasn't for the sugar problem. -
