Do you have the Schweinshaxe? I guess the English name is like pork shank? I didn't find it on the menu on their website

I don't think they do. I know Valter's does. It is about half a mile away on High, and is more authentic in general.

The bahama mama sausage is so good, I ordered it unsure about it given the name, but it gave a good amount of spice and the quality of the sausage was great. Sides are also awesome.
dont skip the pretzels or saurkraut balls!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Matthew P.Pittsburgh, PA96127401Oct 3, 2024
This place had great atmosphere like your neighborhood eatery place feel. Service was good . I had the sausage sampler, I don't know maybe I haven't had that many German sausages but the I did not care for any of them they tasted like processed meet and barely any flavor. The sourkrat was on point though. I also had a side of German potato salad which was like on the verge of like warm it was ok. The applesauce was good though. We also spilt a giant cream puff.
My partner had the ham and cheese on a pretzel bun.... It was so dry. Don't get that
Overall it's a tourist trapHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eric T.Washington, DC32193Sep 22, 2024
A fun German village spot.
A must for of town visitors and tourists.
Get a cream puff and a bratwurst. The sausage platter is good and the warm potato salad.
Go on an evening when there is a polka band.
The service is a little slow on a busy evening. Not a place for a quick meal.
Go on a walk after dinner or lunch to see historic German village.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 24313355447Aug 1, 2024
I had some friends from CT that were meeting me in Columbus and I thought this would be a great spot to bring them! We had a very nice dinner! It is a casual atmosphere but the service is great!
German village is a unique little area of Columbus and the centerpiece is Schmidts! I had long had them at the state fair or the food truck but this was my first time at the physical restaurant. While my favorite thing is the Bahama mama sausage, I had to try something else this time! I had the cabbage roll dinner that came with their staple potato salad and I really liked the spaetzele mixed with green beans side! It was all a generous portion and I really liked the flavor of the roll. I was too full for dessert but got some bahama mamas and cream puffs to go at their walk up deli counter where you can just walk in and grab some stuff to go. Check out their seasonal monthly cream puff flavors or try the staples such as vanilla or buckeye. These cream puffs are huge and a must try!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - R B.Belleville, WI14923Oct 5, 2024
The food is fantastic, fresh and flavorful tasting. Our server Mike was professional and friendly. He was able to answer all questions, even about the painting by our table. A little bit of a wait to sit and good time on getting service and food. Worth the wait.

Authentic German restaurant, from atmosphere, the live polka music, the clothes, and the food. From top to bottom really tasty. Had the sauerkraut balls to start, an interesting take. The sausage plate was just terrific, flavor and texture was perfect. The sauerkraut, red cabbage, and German potato salad were perfect accompaniments, and the homemade applesauce was delish. The hunter schnitzel was thin and tasty. And of course the dessert menu, complete with a half pound cream puff (the house special) topped it all off. Friendly staff. But plan ahead, the place is so good, it is packed, and they don't take reservations.

After living in Columbus for 8 years, I have finally got to try this staple. Forewarning this place seems to be packed 24/7. You are able to put yourself on a waitlist online which is a life saver. It takes me about 25 minutes to get here and the wait at 1:30pm was around 40 minutes. Once I arrived, I think we waited about 15 minutes to be sat. There are some fun shops around the restaurant to kill some time. Despite being packed, food came out quickly and our server was very kind and attentive. I had a bahama mama drink, pretzels and beer cheese, potato soup, and a chocolate cream pie. Everything was fantastic!

We tried sausage platter, pork schnitzel, and tuna salads. All were very good. Particularly like their waffle fries, sauerkraut, and apple strudel. The applesauce that came with sausage was also great. Quick service, although our waitress spilled a lot of water on the table when refilling our glasses. The cream puffs were ok, not the best we ever have. Loud and lively ambience and we came during lunch hours.

You can't talk about Columbus restaurants without Schmidts coming into the conversation. Truthfully, this would be on the list of places I'd tell anyone to go if they were visiting the city for just one night. The authentically German vibes both within and outside the restaurant are immaculate - the servers really buy into the theme and culture from which the food stems from, and you will almost certainly leave happy no matter what you order. That said, order yourself a nice brat or sausage - it's what they are known for - and if you get it sandwich style you get a generously buttered roll (think Cane's toast but better) to go with! Don't cheat yourself on a nice pint of hefe to go along with. The spätzle was delish too! Fits the brand of German Village well.
