China has moved forward with a complaint at the World Trade Organization that alleges the European Union has improperly set anti-subsidy tariffs on new Chinese-made electric vehicles. The Chinese diplomatic mission to the WTO said Monday it “strongly opposes” the measures. It insisted its move was designed to protect the EV industry and support a global transition toward greener technologies. The European bloc announced last week it was imposing import duties of up to 35% on electric vehicles from China.

Serbia’s government minister for infrastructure and construction says he's stepping down, days after a concrete canopy collapsed at a railway station, killing 14 people and severely injuring three. Goran Vesic announced his resignation at an extraordinary press conference as anger mounted in the Balkan country over Friday's fatal collapse in the northern city of Novi Sad. Surveillance camera footage showed the massive canopy on the outer wall of the station building just crashing down in seconds on the people sitting below on benches or going in and out.

A coalition of over 100 organizations has reported that nearly 20,000 individuals were displaced from informal housing in Paris and surrounding areas during preparations for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The group Le Revers de la Médaille claims these evictions are part of “social cleansing,” citing evidence including government documents that reference the Olympics as justification. Eviction operations surged by 41% compared to the previous year, with over 4,500 minors affected. French officials, including President Emmanuel Macron, have stated that every displaced person was offered alternative housing and emphasized the creation of a social legacy linked to the Games.

Mexico’s Defense Department claims the National Guard has killed two Colombians and wounded four others in a confrontation near the U.S. border. The department said late Sunday the shootings took place on a dirt road near Tecate that is frequently used by Mexican migrant smugglers. It was not clear whether the Colombians were migrants. Mexico's Defense Department, which controls the National Guard, did not respond to requests for comment on that point. If they were migrants, it would mark the second time in just over a month that military forces have opened fire and killed migrants.
