Man arrested after I-20 crash that killed 24-year-old in Grovetown

A man has been arrested weeks after a fatal crash on I-20 at the Lewiston Road exit in July, authorities told us Friday.

GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A man has been arrested weeks after a fatal crash on I-20 at the Lewiston Road exit in July, authorities told us Friday.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, a man has been arrested on Sept. 4 and charged with homicide by vehicle in the second degree, driver to exercise due care, following too closely and basic rules.

Edgefield County Sheriff Jody Rowland confirmed a crash involved a tractor and a car on Highway 191.

Until we learn if he is charged with a misdemeanor or felony, we will not publish his name or booking photo.

The coroner’s office says 24-year-old Mya Angela Steed, of Dearing, was pronounced deceased at Doctor’s Hospital at 11:59 a.m. July 5.

Columbia County dispatchers said the call came in at 10:13 a.m. of a two-vehicle crash eastbound on I-20 at the Lewiston Road exit.

The eastbound lane was blocked and traffic was at a standstill for a time. By 11:45 a.m., crews were cleaning up and leaving the scene.

The coroner’s office says Steed will not be autopsied.
