MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - From plugging in the amplifier to warming up the vocals, George and Teresa Nuber do not miss a beat.

The dynamic duo does more than just perform, they perform with a purpose.

“Our music ministry is all about helping people in need. Our neighbors that have some type of issue going on,” said George Nuber.

The Nubers played for their church in Northern Virginia back in 2009 when the two started as friends.

“We lost our spouses of over 30 years from health problems. They both passed away,” he explained.

“His wife in 2011. My husband in 2013,” Teresa Nuber said.

Their love for music and for each other soon blossomed, sparking a marriage and PURPOSE, the name of their Christian band.

“We are so blessed that we feel like we should be blessing others,” Teresa Nuber added.

The couple moved to Myrtle Beach in 2020 where they quickly relaunched their musical ministry.

“We basically select a local charity to provide all that money. The venue pays us and then whatever cash we get from what we call our donation bucket from the patrons. It all gets wrapped up. One hundred percent of it goes to that charity. We don’t take a penny,” George Nuber explained.

PURPOSE has raised more than $22,000 within the last two years. The band kicked off this year at the Marina Bar and raised more than $700 for Meals on Wheels.

“We do classic rock, we do pop, country. We do some jazz,” said George Nuber.

George also creates his own tracks to have a full band so the two can focus on singing and playing other instruments.

“I want to play songs that people don’t typically hear from other groups because they have told us it’s refreshing to hear something different,” said Teresa Nuber.

The couple said they’ve kept the crowds clapping for charities with more than 100 gigs in the last 10 years and their goal is to ramp up that number.

“We’re going to keep doing this as long as we can until we can’t do it anymore,” said George Nuber. “We want to be entertaining. We want to be uplifting but at the same time, our purpose is to serve and give the Lord to people and charities in need.”

“That’s what we’re here for,” Teresa Nuber said.
