Etymology

From 𐍆𐌹𐌳𐌿𐍂- (fidur-) + the stem of 𐍂𐌰𐌲𐌹𐌽 (ragin) + a suffix, either -𐌴𐌹𐍃 (-eis) (compare 𐍂𐌰𐌲𐌹𐌽𐌴𐌹𐍃 (ragineis)) or -𐌹 (-i). Calque of Koine Greek τετράρχης (tetrárkhēs, “tetrarch”) or Koine Greek τετραρχίᾱ (tetrarkhíā, “tetrarchy”). The choice between these two suffixes, which would determine the lemma (nominative singular) form of the word, depend on whether one interprets this word as meaning "tetrach" (in which case -eis is likely the correct suffix) or "tetrachate" (in which case -i is the suffix). The word translates the participle τετρααρχοῦντος (tetraarkhoûntos, “being tetrarch”).
