LELAND, N.C. (WECT) - The Murray Family of Mimi & Papa’s Gourmet Popcorn is spearheading Leland’s first Mural Project.

“The idea for the mural project was born two years ago when Misty Murray Pelliciotta, daughter of Phyllis and George Murray (Mimi & Papa), sought innovative ways to increase visibility and engagement at the family’s beloved shop. Inspired by the captivating murals that have adorned businesses in Charlotte, Misty envisioned a similar opportunity for Leland,” a Leland Mural Project announcement states.

Art League of Leland members Ricardo Perez, Carol St. Hilaire and Loretta Partin are volunteering their time and abilities to create a mural on the shop wall.

“The Murrays are actively involved in the project, providing supplies, refreshments, and even lending a hand with the initial preparations. Local Girl Scout Troop 4253 will also be contributing to the mural on Sunday, September 22nd to keep with the collaborative community theme. A dedication will be incorporated into the mural to honor Mr. Ezra Dale, a valued member of the Leland community. A special thank you goes out to his daughter Sandi Williams and the rest of the Dale Family for their support of the project and their commitment to the town and this business complex,” the announcement continues.
