EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office identified a man who allegedly brought a weapon to the Belaire High School campus and fired three shots into the ground.

According to EBRSO, a school administrator was told by a parent at the high school that a man was talking about coming to ‘shoot up the school’. Deputies were able to identify the man as Desmond Williams, 23.

Williams admitted to being on school property with his AR Pistol and said he shot three times into the ground in an attempt to de-escalate a fight.

He was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for illegal carrying of a firearm on school property and illegal discharge of a firearm.

“We take threats near and on our school campuses very seriously,” said Sheriff Sid Gautreaux. “I commend the people that spoke up and came forward with the information that led to this arrest, as well as the diligence of the School Drug Task Force.”
