PRINCE GEORGE and Princess Charlotte made their second appearance on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s European tour this morning as the young royal brood boarded a flight from Warsaw to Germany, immediately creating headlines with their matching outfits and adorable antics. Both the young prince and princess started their short to the plane in a shy state, which grew to impatience as they came closer to the private jet which they were both visibly keen to board.

All dressed in varying shades of royal blue, the young family made the case for colour coordinated ensembles rather credibly. Prince William’s tie and suit matched that of his family’s hue in a sophisticated way, while Princess Charlotte wore the blue equivalent of the outfit she donned when she arrived in Poland earlier this week: a floral dress, matching bow in her hair and Mary Jane shoes worn with white socks. Prince George wore a short-sleeved pinstripe shirt and tailored shorts.

As the Cambridges boarded a flight from Warsaw to Germany on the third day of the royal tour, the Duchess wore a pleated coat by British designer Catherine Walker.PA

The Duchess herself chose a pleated coat by British designer Catherine Walker for the journey. The three-quarter-length-sleeve coat was worn over a blue dress and nude pumps, with her hair neatly tied back.

Catherine Walker & Co is, of course, a true British institution – adored by the late Princess of Wales, no less – and today’s hue was a nod to the Berlin Blue pigment (also known as Cornflower Blue) first created in Berlin in the early 18th Century which was worn by the Prussian Army up until the First World War.

As soon as they landed in Berlin, the royal couple went straight to meet Chancellor Merkel and have a full schedule ahead. After visiting the Brandenburg Gate, they will attend the Holocaust Memorial and visit Strassenkinder in east Berlin, a charity which supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, before heading to Bellevue Palace Gardens, where they will meet President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and attend a garden party in honour of the Queen’s birthday at the British ambassador’s residence.
