Cardiovascular Genetics Program
The UCSF Cardiovascular Genetics Program cares for patients and families with a range of hereditary heart conditions, from isolated cardiac diseases to complex genetic syndromes.
Many types of cardiovascular disease run in families, and they are relatively common, affecting more than 1% of the population. Recognizing and diagnosing these conditions can be challenging, so it's important to be evaluated by experienced specialists.
Our team includes experts from many fields, including cardiology, electrophysiology, genetics, cardiac pathology and medical imaging. All our care providers have advanced training in cardiovascular genetic disease.
In our clinic, we identify signs and symptoms of inherited heart disease, arrange for appropriate cardiac and genetic testing, determine diagnoses, and provide individually tailored treatment plans. We also address the complex psychological responses and familial implications that being diagnosed with a genetic heart disorder can bring.
When appropriate, we collaborate with colleagues at UCSF's Pediatric Heart Center to provide care for family members of all ages and address the particular issues surrounding genetic heart disease that arise in the course of a lifetime.
Patients who receive heart care outside of UCSF are welcome to seek cardiovascular genetic counseling and genetic testing at our clinic.
