Enterprise backup made fast and easy
Overall Satisfaction with Cohesity DataProtect
We use Cohesity DataProtect to back up all of our physical and virtual servers as well as desktops. The primary problems Cohesity addressed for us were that we wanted our backup data to be on separate disks than production (this was not the case before) and we wanted faster restore times for virtual machines. We have a Cohesity cluster in each of our data centers and use the replication feature so our backup data has redundant copies.
Pros
- Fast VM restores
- Good dedupe/compression
- Easy replication
- Good Dashboards
Cons
- Hotfixes complicated to install
- Upgrades don't always populate into GUI
- Ease of use
- Fast restores
- Small backup windows
- Faster restores mean less user downtime
- Smaller backup windows mean we can run multiple backup jobs throughout the day. This means that we can restore a file closer to where an issue occurred to minimize data re-entry
We used to use the NetApp SnapManager suite, I've found Cohesity to be more reliable, easier to configure, and restores to be faster.
