Chekhov just can’t get a night off. On Tuesday, May 7, Lincoln Center Theater’s production of Uncle Vanya had the night off, but in its place on stage the Vivian Beaumont Theater was a one-night-only revival of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, the 2013 Tony Award-winning play by Christopher Durang.
The evening opened with a performance of the comedy—starring Sigourney Weaver, David Hyde Pierce, Kristine Neilsen, David Hull, Linda Lavin, and Liesel Allen Yeager, and directed by Bartlett Sher—before guests moved to Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall for a seated dinner or cocktails in the pop-up Spike’s Lounge, where DJ Jenny Albright was playing music.
On hand were Lincoln Center Theater board chair Kewsong Lee, Uncle Vanya star Steve Carell, Liliana Blain-Cruz, J.T. Rogers, Michael R. Jackson, Ayad Akhtar, Henry Timms, Candice Bergen, William Jackson Harper, and more. The event supported Lincoln Center Theater’s productions and education programming.
