There are some Ontario road construction projects to watch for over the holidays.

The holidays are upon us and for many folks that means a long drive to see family across Ontario.

While certainly not as numerous as through the spring and summer, there are still road construction projects happening throughout the winter.

Here are some road projects on Ontario’s major routes, as reported on Ontario 511.

Highway 400

Drivers should be aware of several construction spots on Highway 400.

Work on southbound lanes, impacting three alternating lanes, between Sheppard Avenue and Highway 401 in Toronto, should be completed by Dec. 23.

There is construction on the southbound off-ramp at Finch Avenue in Toronto, impacting the left lane, with no immediate end date.

Construction between Bass Pro Mills Drive and Highway 7 impacting the southbound collector should end Dec. 24.

Work between Major Mackenzie Drive and Bass Pro Mills Drive in the southbound lanes should also end by Dec. 24.

Work on both the northbound and southbound collectors between Dunlop Street/Simcoe Road 90 and Highway 26 Bayfield Street in Barrie, impacting two alternating lanes in each direction, is expected to wrap up Dec. 23.

Highway 401

The Leslie Street Highway 401 eastbound on-ramp in Toronto is closed. The work is expected to end Dec. 31.

Construction on the eastbound and westbound 401 between Bowmanville Avenue/Durham Region Road 57 in Clarington and Morgans Road in Newcastle is impacting one lane in each direction, with work expected to wrap up by Dec. 26.

Highway 403

Construction on the westbound Highway 403 on-ramp at Wayne Gretzky Parkway in Brantford is expected to end by Dec. 23.

Highway 404

Work on southbound Highway 404 between Stouffville Road and 19th Line in Stouffville, impacting one lane, is expected to wrap up Dec. 23.

Highway 417

The westbound Highway 417 on-ramp at Lyons Street in Ottawa remains closed, with no immediate end date.

Highway 17 (North Ontario)

Construction on eastbound Highway 17 between Pioneer Street West and Main Street in Markstay (east of Sudbury) is impacting one alternating lane, with work expected to end Jan. 1.
