Droughts, floods and storms: Climate change is already a threat today and will pose an even greater threat to our livelihoods in the future. Business and society: We are all called upon to take action and change our behavior. At thyssenkrupp we have long been driving the green transformation of an entire industry. And for this we need even more bright minds with innovative ideas and great drive. What we need: People who want to take action and join us in shaping the industry of tomorrow.
Climate change is not a threat that will only affect us sometimes in the future. It is already here and it could turn our lives upside down in the future. No part of the world is safe from climate change: Polar ice caps are melting and sea levels are rising. In some regions, severe storms and precipitation are increasing, while in others, extreme heat waves and droughts are on the rise. That's why we all need to protect our climate - and we need to do it now!
At thyssenkrupp we naturally take our responsibility seriously: primarily through steel production, we are currently responsible for around 2.5 percent of CO2 emissions in Germany. As drastic as this figure is, it shows what a significant contribution we at thyssenkrupp can make to reducing climate-damaging emissions.
As one of the world's leading technology and industrial groups we therefore want to play a key role in saving the climate. Together, we are moving forward to make the world a better place for future generations. We don't just say that. We also want to put it into practice. Together, with our colleagues from a wide range of industries, we are integrating climate protection and energy efficiency at all levels and setting standards at all stages of the value chain. With our innovative solutions, we are shaping a resource-efficient future for a better world.
We have long since initiated the green transformation. Our ambitious goal is to be climate-neutral by 2050 at the latest, and in some areas and countries much earlier. This is being achieved through our Climate Action Program for Sustainable Solutions (CAPS), through which we are fundamentally transforming our processes to radically optimize the energy and climate efficiency of our production.
Want to see examples? Here we go!
At around 30 %, conventional steel production today accounts for the largest share of industrial greenhouse gas emissions in Germany. So it's time to do something about it. The good news is that we have been doing at it for a long time. With our solutions for climate friendly steel production we are making a significant contribution to reducing climate-damaging emissions.
The use of green hydrogen at thyssenkrupp Steel, for example, is the decisive step towards making the steel industry more environmentally friendly: We are replacing the blast furnaces with a direct reduction technology. Instead of using coal, we reduce the iron ore in these with hydrogen. This no longer produces CO2, just water vapor.
Green hydrogen plays the decisive role in making the steel industry and other industries CO2-neutral and future-proof: With green hydrogen as a key component, industrial companies can make their production more sustainable and drastically reduce their CO2 emissions. With our thyssenkrupp nucera electrolysis business we are already one of the few suppliers worldwide to offer technologies for the production of CO2-neutral green hydrogen on a gigascale basis.
One of the challenges is the transport of hydrogen. But we have the right answers for this too: With innovative ammonia plants from thyssenkrupp Uhde we not only make fertilizer more sustainable, but also enable an efficient, low-emission hydrogen transport worldwide.
Electromobility is also an important piece of the puzzle in the fight against climate change: electric cars are now a key part of the mobility revolution - and are increasingly making their mark on our roads. This is a market of the future that thyssenkrupp is also helping to drive forward. Novel special steels for electric motors and lightweight solutions or special production lines for batteries: In the various segments of our family of companies we are developing innovative technologies to put the sustainable cars of tomorrow on the road.
And when it comes to climate-neutral electricity, we're not far away either - we're right in the middle of it. At thyssenkrupp rothe erde, for example, we develop and produce key components for wind turbines such as huge and extremely powerful slewing bearings.
In cement production, too, we recognized the signs of the times a long time ago: Almost seven percent of global CO2 emissions are caused by the cement industry. A shocking fact that needs to be changed: To make this gray industry greener in the long term, we at thyssenkrupp Polysius are developing technologies and solutions for sustainable cement production in the future.
But the future doesn't just happen, it’s made. And to move toward a climate-neutral future, we need real doers who are eager to make a difference. To recruit the right talent for us, we have launched a new campaign. Under the motto "Be active. Join #GENERATIONTK", we want you to make a small CO2 footprint, but big career plans. That's why we're looking for motivated colleagues who want to be part of the green transformation and make our world a better place.
Get active now and help shape the industry of tomorrow together with us.
