Food for thought.

"Everything On A Waffle" is a quirky story where things just happen and then the main conflict neatly resolves itself on the last few pages. I think it was so charming to me as a kid because it reads like Primrose wrote it herself, so it feels like the story came straight from a child's imagination. As an adult, the nuance of each event is easier to pick up on and I started to understand the more realistic perspectives of the other adults in the story who tried to help her understand that maybe her mother's motives for leaving in that storm didn't necessarily come from a deep love for her child. Overall, this is a book that makes you think - no matter what age you are when you read it - and I appreciate that a whole lot.

Everything On A Waffle-By Patty Horvath

If you like suspenseful books, this book is for you. The first page will already have you hooked. Some of the characters have wierd names such as Primrose and Ms.Perfidy. And where it takes place is amazing like the... oops I'm not suposed to tell you that, you'll have to figure that out for your self. Well, anyways getting back on subject, the restraunts are amazing too, but unfortuneatly I can't tell you that either. Primrose the main character goes through a lot like losing a toe and her parents go missing. well, I recremend this book to anyone who likes suspenseful, funny just all around good books. -Report By Hannah Parrish

Book Review from a 4th grader

I thought the book Everything on a Waffle was great. Primrose Squarp is an 11 year old girl who looses her parents at the beginning of the book. The story starts with Primrose and her mother together and her father out at sea. When her mom finds out that a typhoon happens, she is so worried she goes down to the dock and tries to rescue him. She leaves Primrose with the neighbor Mrs. Perfidy. Instead of rescuing Primroses father, she also vanishes. The rest of the book is filled with adventures. As I read this book it reminded me of the Pippi Longstocking stories. Both Pippi and Primrose are brave, smart, alone alot of the time and never give up what they are trying to acheive.Primrose lives with many different people. My favorite was Uncle Jack. She makes friends with an interesting person named Miss Bowzer. Miss Bowzer runs a restaurant named "The Girl on the Red Swing". She serves every meal she makes on a waffle. For example, she served broiled swaordfish on a waffle to Uncle Jack. She also lost body parts in some of her adventures. You'll have to read the book to find out which ones. One of my favorite things about the book is that the author ended each chapter with a recipe. So there are 15 new recipes to try. Each recipe has something to do with something mentioned in the chapter. My favorite recipe is Aunt Tilly's Lemon Sugar Cookies. I will not tell you how the book ends, you will have to read it and find out. I am a 10 year old girl that loves to read and I think that this book is especially good for this age but really any age will love it. My mom read it and liked it too. Enjoy the book!

The world's best book found!

Everything on a WaffleBy Polly Horvath If you were looking for a nice relaxing, exciting book don't look any further. Read the world's favorite; Everything on a Waffle!Everything on a Waffle is about a girl named Primrose Squarp, a smart, brave girl. Primrose's parents got lost at sea and everyone thought that her parents died except for Primrose. She believes her parents are still alive. Primrose goes through a lot of difficult things, like she lost a toe and half a finger. At first she stayed with a woman named Ms. Perfidy for a little while each day; the city pays her. Then Primrose stayed with her Uncle Jack a nice, intelligent man. Then she stayed with Evie and Bert, foster parents. Along the way the school counselor, Ms. Honnycut trys to make everyone think that Primrose's parents are gone. Primrose's friend Mrs. Bowser that works at a restaurant called The Girl on the Red Swing gives Primrose helpful advice and keeps her hopes up. A lot of things happen in this fantastic book; but at the end Primrose's parents finally came back. Primrose was happy and knew that they always would. Everything on a Waffle is a great, exciting book and is perfect for kids that like weird beginnings, a funny middle and an exciting ending. My opinion for this book is a two thumbs up. It's my favorite book yet! This book has a good and clear picture of what's happening and there are a lot of details. It's the best!...

Love it

This book is highly amusing and funny! My famly is reading it aloud and is not yet done, but already love it! The story is about Primrose, who's parents disapeared at sea. Everyone thinks they're dead but Primrose. Her Uncle Jack, a realtor, now is her guardian. Although his heart is in the right place, he just isn't the best guardian. Other characters include the psychology-obsessed Miss. Honeycut- the British guidance counselor for Primrose's school, who has a crush on Uncle Jack. Then there's the owner of the restaurant in Primrose's hometown, Mrs Bowzer, who has her own opinion about everything. Other than that, see Ms Perfidy, an old woman who took care of Primrose the time before Uncle Jack came. The whole book is mostly about the FUNNY adventures of Primrose, who narrates the book with many comical comments on everyone's actions. If you want a good read, this is one!

Great Read-Aloud Book

Everything on a Waffle is an enjoyable book. I discovered this book on the library shelf by accident. The title caught my attention first. As a fifth/sixth grade teacher, I am always looking for read-aloud books that my students and I will both find enjoyable. My students loved this book, and so did I! Students can relate to Primrose's awkwardness at this age. And while some of the characters are a bit exaggerated in their descriptions, everyone can think of someone they know that has some of the quirky traits of Primrose's uncle, the school guidance counselor, Miss Perfidy, and other characters in the story. While the underlying topic is serious (grieving for lost loved ones), there are many extremely funny scenes in this book. In fact, on several occasions, while reading Everything on a Waffle aloud to my class, I laughed so hard that I couldn't continue! At first, I used this book with my class purely for enjoyment purposes. However, I found it to be a helpful lead-in to discussions about topics such as bullying and cooking. The recipes at the end of each chapter encourage students to try things in the kitchen. The conclusion of the book was predictable though. Even my students figured out the ending ahead of time.
