Princess Diana
The late Princess Diana was born on July 1, 1961, to Frances Shand Kydd and John Spencer. She was a part of an initial group of four siblings: Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Charles Spencer, and Lady Jane Fellows. In 1969, Diana’s parents divorced, and by 1976, Diana had gained Raine Spencer as her stepmother. King Charles, who was then known as Prince Charles, met Diana for the first time in 1977 while he was dating her sister Sarah. The pair, Charles and Diana, married on July 29, 1981. While their wedding was incredibly lavish, with Diana’s wedding dress reportedly now worth £151,000, their marriage was fraught with scandal due to the revelation of Charles’ affair with his now-wife Camilla Parker Bowles. The couple had two children: Prince William, born June 21 1982, and Prince Harry, born September 15, 1984. After years of separation, in 1996, Princess Diana and Prince Charles finally divorced.
The now-single Princess Diana spent the summer of 1997 in the south of France and Italy, where she met Dodi Al-Fayed again, the son of Mohamed Al-Fayed. Soon the two sparked a romantic relationship, and by the end of August 1997, the pair travelled to Paris together. It was here that the Princess of Wales was involved in a fatal car crash in the Pont De l’Alma tunnel on August 31, 1997. The much-loved royal died at the age of 36. Princess Diana’s funeral was held on September 6, 1997, and she was laid to rest at Althorp House, her childhood home.
