Key offseason moves

  • Signed defensive back Darious Williams to a 3-year deal on March 13. Williams returns for his second stint with the Rams after spending the last two seasons in Jacksonville, and in an episode of this offseason's Behind the Grind, defensive coordinator Chris Shula hinted the way he was used with the Jaguars could allow the Rams to use him differently compared his role in his first stint.
  • Signed former Commanders safety Kamren Curl to a 2-year deal on March 18. Curl's arrival brings intriguing versatility, and it will be interesting to see how Shula and assistant head coach/defensive backs coach/pass game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant utilize it within Los Angeles' secondary.
  • Signed former Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White to a 2-year deal on April 9. White's arrival added veteran experience to a young cornerback group, as well as All-Pro and Pro Bowl pedigree.
  • Re-signed John Johnson III on July 7. In bringing back Johnson, the Rams bring back production and veteran experience to the safety position.
  • Selected Miami's Kam Kinchens in the third round of this year's draft. Kinchen was consistently praised internally and externally for his sideline-to-sideline range, one of his best attributes he'll be bringing to the Rams' defensive backfield.

What's next

White continuing to progress and get acclimated to the defense, and figuring out Curl's role. There's no timetable yet on exactly when White will return to practice full-time, but when he does get healthy, having an experience voice out there will be critical for a young Rams secondary. As for Curl, there are lots of possibilities with how he could be deployed. According to Pro Football Focus, out of 1,088 total snaps in 2023, Curl played 428 of them in the box, 422 at free safety and 166 at slot corner.
