Around 60 homes are without power after dozens of firefighters were called to a blaze in a terraced Swindon street.

In total eight fire crews were deployed to Imber Walk in Penhill after a call for back-up when firefighters arrived at a significant house fire shortly after 9am.

One person was injured and has been taken to hospital.

Crews battled the blaze for several hours, using an aerial ladder to tackle the incident from above.

Police cars, ambulances, and a Wales and West Utilities crew were also working on the scene to support the fire service.

Emergency services were forced to isolate the power at the nearest substation as part of their response to the incident, leaving around 60 households in the area without power.

At the time of writing, hours after the fire initially broke out, firefighters remained at the scene and were still working to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring homes.

“Approximately 60 homes are currently without power due to the electricity board isolating the power at the local substation.

“We will remain on scene for some time.”

The scale of the response saw emergency responders flood Imber Walk throughout the morning and afternoon.

Fire engines filled the street while police could be seen diverting traffic in the area.

The house itself and a walkway past it were cordoned off while firefighters tackled the blaze.
