20mph speed limits are now being enforced on dozens of roads in a Wiltshire town to reduce crashes, the council confirmed.
In September, Wiltshire Council completed the installation of 20mph signs on a raft of residential streets in Chippenham, after the plans were approved last year.
The lower speed limits are now being enforced on roads in the Hill Rise and Barrow Green area, off Malmesbury Road and Langley Road.
It is understood that a consultation on the proposal received just one objection and was subsequently approved by the cabinet at Wiltshire Council.

The council hopes that lowering the speed limit on these routes will reduce the risk of crashes and bring environmental impacts.
Cllr Richard Clewer, the leader of the council, said: “With new 20mph signage now in place at Hill Rise and Barrow Green in Chippenham, the revised speed limit is now enforceable.
“Whilst there are always differing views about speed limits, the benefits of a 20mph zone are well known, with reductions in collisions and injuries, and environmental improvements.”
Some residents have been campaigning for the installation of 20mph areas around Hill Rise for several years and the road has previously been branded a safety concern.
Town councillors backed the plans in June and agreed to contribute financially towards the installation of signage.
Speaking at the time, Cllr Matthew Short said: “I fully support this one, it’s been through a long process as we all know, in financial terms it’s not a big financial contribution.
“It covers such a big area of the town. It covers walks to schools, St Paul’s School and the cut-through to Hardenhuish School, so I think it’s a really important thing to fund.
“It would be terrible if we didn’t approve it.”
It was estimated in June that the scheme would cost around £11,000 to implement and the town council agreed to fund 50 per cent of this cost.
