Ascend effortlessly to Soprabolzano with the Renon Cable Car - a mountain retreat above the town
Soprabolzano (Oberbozen) is one of the largest villages on the Renon plateau and easily accessible even without a car. The cable car departs from Bolzano, just a short walk from the central train station, whisking you up to the plateau in twelve minutes. You'll disembark right in the village centre at the mountain station. From there, you can set off on foot to explore the hiking trails or continue to Collalbo aboard the historic Renon Railway, affectionately known as the "Bahnl".
To the right of the cable car station, you'll find the outdoor pool, and to the left, the church. The village's houses spread from the Zagglermoos area towards Maria Assunta (Maria Himmelfahrt), with its impressive Earth Pyramids, and extend as far as the Kaserhof farm. Soprabolzano offers numerous excursion possibilities, including the Earth Pyramids in the Rio Rivellone Gorge. There, you can marvel at these slender columns, crowned with protective capstones.
In the other direction, the Funimal Forest beckons, an ideal destination for families. Various themed stations dedicated to forest animals invite you to climb, swing, and discover amidst the trees. Those interested in culture and history will also find something to admire in the village. The Church of St. George and St. James boasts impressive medieval frescoes, and in the Maria Assunta district, you can see 17th-century summer holiday homes.
With the first snowflakes, Soprabolzano transforms into a charming Advent village. The stops of the Renon Railway become the "Renon Christmas Train", a small but delightful Christmas Market.
