England 37 Australia 18
2018 Autumn International
Date: Saturday, 24 November, 2018
Venue: Twickenham

England swept aside Australia 37-18 to claim a sixth successive victory over the Wallabies and complete a successful autumn series at Twickenham marred only by a controversial defeat to New Zealand.

The old enemies were deadlocked at 13-13 entering half-time but blistering tries from Elliot Daly and Joe Cokanasiga opened up daylight before the win became a rout when Owen Farrell touched down in the closing stages.

Apart from losing their way in the second quarter, England dominated the Cook Cup showdown with man of the match Kyle Sinckler, Jonny May and Cokanasiga outstanding.

It’s a big day for the starting half-backs. Will Genia wins his 100th cap, while Matt Toomua starts at No10. Tonight his wife Ellyse Perry, the best all-rounder in women’s cricket (and an international footballer) takes on England in the World T20 final in Antigua. Big day out for the family.

Australia drop Kurtley Beale and Adam Ashley-Cooper for 'bringing women to hotel room'

Veteran backs Kurtley Beale and Adam Ashley-Cooper are not in the Wallabies squad to face England on Saturday because they reportedly broke team protocol by bringing women into their hotel room in Cardiff earlier this month, according to the Australian Telegraph.

Beale, particularly, was a surprise omission when Michael Cheika named his team on Thursday and had been tipped for a call-up to the bench when David Pocock was ruled out with a neck injury.

But his mystery absence has been confirmed by Australia’s team management as to do with bringing three women back to the hotel room after their defeat to Wales 13 days ago.

Cheika is reported to have only been made aware of the incident when informed by the playing leadership group which includes captain Michael Hooper and Pocock.

Ashley-Cooper, 34, was only recently recalled by Australia after more than two years away to act as a senior figure. He did not play in the match in Cardiff and one of the women is said to be his sister in law, who was with her friends.

Tuilagi on the team sheet

Well, after a tricky day for England yesterday, there’s good news for England fans arriving at Twickenham today. Manu Tuilagi is officially on the team sheet. No late pull out. Or, at least, if he does pull out now it’ll be a really, really late pull out. Tuilagi has not played of England since a 17-minute cameo off the bench in the 2016 Six Nations. Before that it was the tour of New Zealand in 2014. It’s been a long time between drinks.
