Jason Seigel avoids "spoilers" about Cobie Smulders' return in Shrinking season 3

Shrinking Season 2 finally concluded its super-sized run in a beautiful episode that embodies everything good about the brilliant show from Apple TV+. Now, there are already questions rising about what will happen in season 3.

As the narrative is still far from complete and a third season is already confirmed, one of the questions that has arisen has been about the return of Cobie Smulders, something that Jason Seigel answered in a very cryptic way while talking about the upcoming season.

As most fans know, Jason Seigel and Cobie Smulders have worked together for nearly a decade in the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, with both actors passing through their formative years in the show. The return of the two on the same screen in Shrinking Season 2 already sparked a lot of emotions for many television fans and questions are already being asked about Cobie's return.

In an interview with Variety, Jason Seigel answered this rather subtly, saying:

"I’m not trying to give any spoilers. But I think it’s all a reflection of if Jimmy can get his shit together."

While this does not answer whether Smulders would indeed be in the future seasons of Shrinking, Seigel's refusal to give spoilers may hint at a brighter future for Smulders' character in the future of the show.

Fans and creators want Cobie Smulders to play her character in Shrinking season 3

The How I Met Your Mother star is rather new on the Apple TV+ show, making her appearance on the 10th episode of the second season. She portrays the role of Sofi, a character whom Seigel's character purchases a car from in the 10th episode. There is also an evident spark between the characters in the episode, but Jimmy refuses to pursue a romantic relationship stating he is not ready yet.

However, this may all change in the coming season, especially as fans and the creators are all enthusiastic to have the actress and her character back. In fact, in a fresh interview from TV Line, co-creator Bill Lawrence spoke about his desire to continue having Cobie Smulders. He said:

"I would kill to have Cobie back in the show. We always do Easter eggs for what the next season’s about in the season before. And so, Cobie’s character is kind of a personification, a visual representation of what moving forward looks like for Jason’s character. If I can’t get lucky enough to have her back, we’re gonna have to go back to the drawing board."

All this does keep the door open for Smulders' return to the show, but there is still no confirmation, and there is unlikely to be any in the coming months.

Shrinking season 3 will undoubtedly generate a lot of hype and having Smulders will only increase the hype.
