Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are widely regarded as the top contenders for Grand Slam success in 2025. However, the debate over who will come out on top between the duo has drawn contrasting opinions from former players like Tim Henman and Mats Wilander.
Sinner and Alcaraz established themselves as the leaders of the tour this season, splitting the four Major titles evenly. After winning both hard court Slams in 2024, the World No. 1 will look to extend his dominance to the French Open and Wimbledon in the upcoming season. The Spaniard, meanwhile, remains focused on clinching the elusive Australian Open title.
During a recent interview with Eurosport, Tim Henman backed Carlos Alcaraz to beat out Jannik Sinner and win more Major titles in 2025, with fellow former British tennis player Laura Robson echoing the same sentiment.
"I think Alcaraz is going to win more Slams in 2025 than Sinner," Henman said.
"For 2025, I’m going Alcaraz," Robson chimed in.
Contrarily, former World No. 1 Mats Wilander expressed confidence in the Italian's ability to outperform his arch-rival, predicting that Sinner would win a "minimum" of two Grand Slam titles.
"Jannik Sinner will win more Grand Slams than Carlos Alcaraz. A minimum of two Slams from Mr. Sinner," he said.
Meanwhile, Alex Corretja pictured a more evenly matched outcome, suggesting that the duo would split the Majors again.
"I think they might tie it this year," Corretja contended.
Carlos Alcaraz sets his sights on completing career Grand Slam at Australian Open 2025 as Jannik Sinner gears up for title defense
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will commence their 2025 season at the Australian Open, both with ambitious goals. While Sinner will aim to defend his title in Melbourne, the Spaniard has set his sights on completing the elusive career Grand Slam.
Alcaraz recently emphasized that triumphing at the Melbourne Slam was his "main goal" of the season, even disclosing his plans to go against his father's wishes and get a tattoo celebrating the victory.
"I am a very ambitious person and I want to win the Australian Open to complete the career Grand Slam. I want 2025 to be even more exciting. Let’s say I want more. Australia is what I want to tattoo, even if my father doesn’t like it very much. Being champion there is my main goal for next season," Alcaraz said (via Eurosport).
Carlos Alcaraz has also revealed his intention to get a tattoo of a kangaroo when he wins the Australian Open, after commemorating his maiden US Open, Wimbledon, and French Open titles with special ink.
