So, that will be all from this match today in the BBL from Hobart. Now, you can switch tabs and join us for the other match in Brisbane which has just begun. For now, this is the pair of Soumarya and Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda and enjoy your New Year's Day!
Chris Jordan, Hobart Hurricanes, the Player of the Match. Here's what he has to say - Was a must win game for us and we came out here and restricted them to 150 and they notched up the runs. We know the potential of the squad and we executed the plans properly. McDermott is a huge player for us and he came good at the right time. For us now, it's one game at a time. We want to galvanize the squad and get a few away wins in the next few games
Hobart Hurricanes win by 7 wickets with 11 balls to spare!
Ben McDermott 53* (34) | Chris Jordan - 2/20 (4) Chris Green 33* (17) | Tanveer Sangha - 1/22 (4)
This was not supposed to be an easy run chase but on the whole, a 7-wicket win with 11 balls remaining was pretty straightforward! Hobart Hurricanes have kept their hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive by taking themselves off the bottom of the table now.
Matthew Wade and Caleb Jewell began pretty nicely with a solid power play but the lower back injury to the wicketkeeper-batter made things interesting all of a sudden! Runs started to slow down and we had a situation where both of them were dismissed in quick succession.
However, the partnership for the 3rd wicket between Macalister Wright and Ben McDermott of 85 runs very much sealed the deal for the Hurricanes! It came in only 9 overs and took care of both pace and spin, equally.
While Wright departed for 34 off 25 balls, McDermott stayed unbeaten on 53, striking at 155.88 with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Corey Anderson finished it off with the winning runs.
Apart from Tanveer Sangha and Nathan McAndrew, no other bowler was able to keep the runs in check as such. The Thunder have every match to win from here if they want to stay alive in the race to the final four.
19.0
18.1 Nathan McAndrew to Corey Anderson, GAME! SET! MATCH! Corey Anderson ends it up in one blow! It was short and at the stumps. He came down the track and heaved it over deep mid wicket for a MAXIMUM to end the game. Hobart Hurricanes win by 7 wickets and 11 balls to spare.
Nathan McAndrew [3.0-0-15-1] comes back into the attack.
This has been a cracking comeback from Ben McDermott after missing out on a couple of matches due to concussion. 50 in only 34 deliveries. He is taking his team home now quite convincingly!

17.6 Liam Hatcher to Ben McDermott, PICKS THIS ONE UP and almost blows up the umpire! McDermott brings up his 50 in style. It was slow and in the slot. He smashed it straight back over the umpires head for a boundary.
17.5 Liam Hatcher to Ben McDermott, change of pace and outside off stump. McDermott hits it to cover. Dot ball
17.4 Liam Hatcher to Corey Anderson, overpitched and outside off stump. Hit hard through cover by Anderson but can't get past the man at the edge of the circle.
Oh, Anderson let this one go! Maybe he is not all that confident out in the middle at the minute.
17.3 Liam Hatcher to Corey Anderson, full toss and wide outside off stump. Anderson is not getting on with it at the moment and he let that one go
That was dug in short at 142.9 kmph! Good heat again!
17.2 Liam Hatcher to Corey Anderson, too short and quick again at the stumps. Anderson is beaten on the pull this time and for pace as well.
17.2 Liam Hatcher to Corey Anderson, WIDE! It was too short.
17.1 Liam Hatcher to Ben McDermott, fuller and outside off stump. McDermott pushed it to mid off for a single.
Liam Hatcher [2.0-0-22-0] comes back into the attack.
There were three fielders converging to take the catch in the last ball of the over but none could get to it! But that shot from McDermott was unnecessary. He should knocked it in the gap and picked up one. Anyway, he is safe.

16.6 Daniel Sams to Ben McDermott, In the air and safe! It was the slower one, wide outside off stump. McDermott went hard at it but didn't get hold of it. It fell in no man's land.
Good run this! Really good call from McDermott to get to the striker's end.
