Davis Thompson fired a 9-under 62 in the third round of the John Deere Classic to aggregate at 21-under 192. Following the third round, he now has a 2-stroke lead over Eric Cole and Aaron Rai.

Davis Thompson is already at 21-under with 18 holes to go and has a strong chance of breaking the tournament record. Notably, Michael Kim won here in 2018 after aggregating at 27-under 257.

The John Deere Classic is known for low scores, and the records verify this statement. In the past 10 years at TPC Deere Run, the winners have aggregated below 20-under seven times. The lowest aggregate was of Kim in 2018, while the highest was 18-under by Bryson DeChambeau in 2017.

Jordan Spieth has won the John Deere Classic two times since 2013. In 2013, he became the first teenager to win on the PGA Tour since Ralph Guldahl won the Santa Monica Open in 1931. Two years later, he won here again in the playoff to become the sixth player to win here multiple times. This year, he is back in action at TPC Deere Run after his last win there.

Brian Harman won at the TPC Deere Run in 2014 after shooting 22-under 262. This was the second straight year where Zach Johnson had to settle with a runner-up finish. Over the years, this golf course witnessed Dylan Frittelli (2019), Lucas Glover (2021), J. T. Poston (2022), and Sepp Straka (2023) lifting the trophy.

Last year, Straka aggregated at 21-under and beat Alex Smalley and Brendon Todd by two strokes. This was his second win on the PGA Tour. This year, he was the highest-ranked player but has struggled to repeat last year's performance. After 54 holes, he is tied for 53rd at 7-under.
