What to Know

Critics Consensus

Dark Matter's intriguing ideas are spread a tad thin over its season-long runtime, but fans of foreboding sci-fi will find its residue addictively sticky.

Tom Ryan The Age (Australia) The TV equivalent of a wild roller coaster ride with a family drama as its emotional hook. And it’s difficult not to be swept along by it. Aug 15, 2024 Full Review James Dyer Empire Magazine Not as ambitious as Foundation, nor as brain-taxing as Constellation, this 'what if?' series hits the spot nonetheless, maintaining Apple's status as the default home of thoughtful, adult-orientated sci-fi. Rated: 3/5 May 23, 2024 Full Review Gregory Wakeman Chicago Reader This sci-fi thriller has its missteps, but powerful leading actors give it depth and resonance. May 16, 2024 Full Review Connor Lightbody Loud and Clear Reviews nowhere near as smart or as subversive as Crouch appears to think it is, but it is pulpy watchable entertainment even if it makes you want to read the novel for hopefully something with a little more bite Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 4, 2024 Full Review Archi Sengupta LeisureByte.com Although some of its runtime might be quite dense, there are moments in this sci-fi series that leaves you at the edge of your seat. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 4, 2024 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net Dark Matter is a twisty, often devastating thriller about regret and paths not taken. It blends together visions of The Matrix, The Cube, and the hyper low-budget Primer into a surprising and ultimately rewarding whole. Rated: 4/5 Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

1 1 When I initally got over the fact that it wasnt Ricky Gervais' brother as the main character, I was sucked into the box. Waiting to see what "version" of the world was awaiting at the other side, along with how the characters were portrayed in "that world" was a treat. Of course it has many leaps to take and stretching of the imagination, however that's the premise. Once your in, your in and the journey of discovery and persistance awaits. Not entirely sure as to why there were so many of Ricky's brothers at the end, by that point it didnt matter. Happily ever after was the achieved goal. Must see as this will keep you hooked. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Walter W This is the most mindbending show I've ever seen. I can't recommend it enough. Esp if you can understand the impact of choices you made in your 20s that created your reality. I couldn't wait for the next episode where the heck are they going with this, its insanity. I need the next season, like now. I can't believe its only 83 per critics, it rocked my world, couldn't wait to get off work and see the next episode. Too good to binge, each episode is worth thinking on. Not a fan of binging TV unless its half hour episodes of fun like Good Place or something. Your brain shuts off after too much viewing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Arya S Giving up after 4 episodes. Too may holes, characters making inexplicable choices, the usual supportive women's roles (Connaly's idealized wife), murky sets. If you like the multiverse theme, go immediately to COUNTERPART, starring JK Simmons, which shows you can do much more, and go much deeper with two parallel worlds than Dark Matter tries to do with it's silly conception of multiverses in a grey corridor. Dark Matters is like the young adult version of Counterpart -- OK is you don't have much cinematic viewing experience. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/15/24 Full Review Peter S Well, just finished the last episode of it on Apple.tv and have to say, it's a show worth watching, overall solid story, acting is on point and the music is also very fitting. Finally a show that has a good ending with leaving room for more seasons. I just hope season 2 will be as good... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/12/24 Full Review Davide B I had read the book years ago and remembered loving it, along with everything else by Blake Crouch. When I realised he was running the show himself I just jumped in head first. I trust this guy 100%. Boy was I not disappointed! It's incredibly faithful to the original but the few things he changed were actually improvements, which is so incredibly rare. That's how all adaptations should be done, just let the original author do it. The story is great, the pacing is perfect in my opinion, all actors are amazing and especially Edgerton is perfect for the role, exactly how I imagined the protagonist. This is a must watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Eva B Great and unique story. Easy to understand and intresting in many ways. Some scenes/episodes were dragging the subject and could have been avoided but overall very enjoyable. Great actors too. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
