Robert Daniels 812filmreviews It's an exploration of the weight of our own mistakes. How the choices we make, and the things we can't change, fundamentally change us. Rated: 3/4 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Kambole Campbell One Room With A View Annihilation is a visceral sensory experience that chills the blood and makes the skin crawl (literally), leading to a bravura conclusion that would make Tarkovsky proud and any jaw drop. Rated: 5/5 Aug 25, 2018 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au Absorbing and hypnotic, Annihilation is the best kind of sci-fi film - the kind that challenges and subverts the genre, all the while introducing new ideas that you'll see in films to come. Rated: 4/5 Mar 27, 2018 Full Review Brendan Cassidy InSession Film Great sci-fi is very rewatchable, and Annihilation qualifies; it may not be quite as strong as Ex Machina, but who cares? Jul 2, 2024 Full Review Kevin Carr Fat Guys at the Movies Even with some high-concept brilliance, the confusing story and narration fail to hold the film together. Rated: 2/4 Mar 23, 2024 Full Review Justin Micallef Vague Visages Like any great masterpiece, dismissal is inherent, but for those who enter The Shimmer, its effect is both numinous and real. Rich Q I really loved this movie. There were so many intricate details that really made you think. It was a great alien movie that took a fresh perspective away from the typical humanoid type aliens. There were many hidden easter eggs that forshadowed coming events and ideas that you have to watch it multiple times! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/16/24 Full Review J C The writers and director really wanted this movie to be deep but it ended up being a boring slog instead. You'll see some clowns online say if you don't like this movie it's because you don't understand it. Somehow people think liking this movie is proof of intelligence. Overall this is an incoherent mess of a movie with a convoluted plot that isn't as thought provoking as everyone wants to believe it is. The second half of the movie is so bad I get sad every time I think about it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Ralf K I very much like this movie. It is based on the first book of a trilogy called the Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer. It's not a strict adaptation, characters and location change, which makes it interesting to watch even if you have read the books. What it succeeds in, is portraying the palpable sense of unease and confusion that the characters experience when confronted by something completely alien and unintelligible, and how most of the characters break from this experience. Give it a watch! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/24 Full Review Blue_Ink _ This was a pretty bad movie, despite not looking too bad. The plot is all over the place and they don't even attempt to build tension for a sci-fi thriller film. The visuals are pretty good, and the actors are all b-list so semi-decent budget (none of them having shining performances in this film). I think they just used up the budget on the actors & visuals, cuz they sure didn't use much on the plot... it really falls apart, I couldn't even finish the last half hour because those bear scenes were so idiotic and incoherent. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/24 Full Review Stephen O Visually stunning and uniquely creative. Some of the best creature design/effects in the genre. Cohesive and eloquent in every tidbit. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/26/24 Full Review Audience Member Starts off pretty good very informative without pushing the information in your face The mental decline of the characters was supreme The middle lacked after Lena went to the lighthouse But the ending carried Definitely a rewatch Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
