About the NRO NC
The NRO NC was established in October 2004 under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU was negotiated between the NRO and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). It is made up of representatives from each of the five RIRs.
The NRO NC also performs the role of the ICANN Address Supporting Organization (ASO) Address Council (AC). This includes:
- Undertaking a role in the global policy development
- Providing recommendations to the Board of ICANN concerning the recognition of new RIRs
- Defining procedures for selection of individuals to serve on other ICANN bodies
- Advising the ICANN Board on number resource allocation policy in conjunction with the RIRs
Role of NRO NC Members
The NRO NC was established in October 2004 under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The NRO NC is made up of three individuals from each of the five RIR regions. Of these three seats, one is filled by each RIR's Executive Council (EC). This individual acts as a representative for the RIR, reporting regularly to their EC. For the RIPE NCC, Wilfried Woeber currently holds this position.
The remaining two positions are filled by the election of nominees from each RIR's service region. These two members of the NRO NC act as individuals and do not represent an RIR or act as representatives of any organisation. One seat is currently filled by Hans Petter Holen and the other by Dave Wilson.
No member of the NRO NC shall receive any compensation for his or her services as an NRO NC member. NRO NC members shall, however, at their request, be reimbursed by the NRO for actual, necessary and reasonable travel and subsistence expenses incurred by them in the performance of their duties.
