Madame Antoinette Sherri’s castle ruins in Madame Sherri Forest in Chesterfield, New Hampshire USA during the autumn months. Madame Antoinette Sherri was a 1920’s costume designer from New York who was known for throwing parties for visitors from the city. The castle was destroyed by fire on October 18, 1962. The foundation and a stone staircase from the home are all that remains. Since taking this photograph in 2014, some of the staircase has collapsed.

One of the few remaining casualties of the London Blitz, this destroyed church has become an enchanting public garden.

Our fascination with architecture runs deep. We pay attention to the structures around us because of the way it shapes our experiences and tells stories about the culture. To really understand our environment, we can explore cities by strolling down the main streets and learning about history by admiring famous landmarks. For some of us, however, the view from the bottom and from a safe distance is simply not enough.
